I work outdoors and walk tens of thousands of steps every day in every possible type of weather. I 've tried boots from several other brands/stores, and finally, after hearing me repeatedly complain about said failed footwear, my brother recommended Merrell. I 've only been wearing them for a few weeks, and while my feet have been delightfully dry( yes, they 're 100% waterproof even in standing water), I 'm wary about whether or not they will last as another brand or two also managed to keep themselves together for a few short months before disintegrating miserably and proving themselves not worth my money. I 'm a die- hard Lone Peak trail running shoe fan. I 've been wearing them for all of my hiking and backpacking adventures for over 6 years. I tried the LP 7 and for the first time ever, it was n't love at first step. I 'll review those separately! I thought I 'd try the LP Hiker 2 instead to see if it felt better than the LP 7. I 'm happy to say that I truly love it. It's an especially nice option for rockier terrain where you might want a little ankle protection. It also eliminates the need to wear gaiters, which I always wear with the LP trail running shoe. The upper on this LP Hiker 2 is far better than I expected... flexible, no grommets to dig into skin, and laces stay tight. The upper does n't put any pressure on my heel or ankles and it does n't restrict my shin from forward motion. The tongue is very comfortable. I LOVE the brown color. It has a slight dusty rose/mauve/salmon tint to it. These are true to size. I always wear an 8. 5 in Lone Peaks and these are no different. It feels very similar to the LP 4. 5 and LP 5( shown in photo). If anything, it does feel a tiny bit more fitted in the midsole. I can immediately tell that it will be warmer and less breathable than the trail runner, but, I 'd expect that from a boot. So, I will likely reserve these for cooler days and rockier terrain., but I will also wear these a lot as a daily winter boot just because they are cute!

I recommend going a full size up. I 'm usually US size 6. 5 wide. I have the LP Alpines in 6. 5 W and they fit well, but I wear thinner socks with them. I first got the Lone Peak Hiker 2's in 7 W( half a size up), and they were a tad too small, especially because I wear thicker socks for hiking. I got them again in 7. 5 W and they 're perfect. See pics comparing sz 6. 5 Alpines w/ sz 7 Hiker 2's, and sz 7 vs. 7. 5 Hiker 2's. Also, there is no arch support in these. Not an issue for me because I have very high arches and routinely add my own insoles to my shoes. When I removed the original Altra insoles and added my own, the fit was much better, and there was more room in the toebox because my insoles are thinner in the front( I use Superfeet carbon lightweight insoles). I have n't put many miles on these yet but I have done some short walks on mixed terrain, and they are great so far. They are lightweight, the high tops support my ankles without limiting movement, and they grip the ground well. Overall would recommend. Just be sure to size up. Thankfully, Altra makes returns super easy.

I just happened across these in a Bozeman MT shop as I was about to throw in the towel on finding a decent pair of hikers. I 'd never heard of Danner before this, but after slipping these babies on I knew it was going to be the start of a beautiful relationship. These took ZERO breaking- in as they were comfy from day one for me. I 've gone on short hikes and just this past summer( I 've owned them for 2 years now), they were my flyfishing wet- wading boots. They worked like a charm on the riverbed and dried out pretty quickly and without any shape change. [ This Keen Targhee Apex is a comfortable shoe! One of the first things I noticed is how quiet the outsole and midsole were when walking around the store on carpet and cement. They 've since been on a dusty hike and a rainy road- to- trail hike. Nice cushioning, stability, and no dust nor water got inside the shoes. Since these shoes are nearly white you can see that some dirt has stayed in the crease on the forefooot even after being hosed off.( Again, no water got inside.) Fit wise, these have a neutral insole, roomier toebox, and wider heel. To keep my foot from sliding forward and to have a better fit for my heel I will add Superfeet insoles. This shoe runs true to size so I went up 1/2 a size to allow for swelling on longer and hot hikes. Nice shoe. I look forward to seeing how it feels after putting more miles on it.
