5 The Rock Jock
[ This bag is frigg'n amazing! I used it for my trip to city of rocks last weekend and it was amazing to be able to fit my rope anand all other gear in the same bag instead of having a backpack and rope bag and such, awesome rope bag!

5 w3sl3y
[ I bought this bag with the hopes that it would be able to store all of my climbing gear to bring to the crag. Not only does it fit a ton of gear, but its ’ wide straps also make it pretty comfortable to carry as well. Convenient top pocket for smaller items is a plus as well!

5 velovixen
[ I finally splurged and got myself a rope bag, and I 'm sure glad that I did! The Petzl Kliff pack is solid and has some really smart design features. I only wish it had some side pockets for holding water bottles or snacks... but otherwise it's well worth the purchase.

5 Adam
[ I just got into lead climbing( mainly indoors) and this pack is sweet! You can fit all your gear including shoes, harness, belay device, tape/clippers. If you are planning on climbing outdoors more, there isn ’ t enough room to fit a helmet, so just keep that in mind! Overall awesome quality and it looks slick!

5 Tcarp
[ Bring this on many climbs. Large enough for 70 meter rope and gear. Extra pocket on top for more gear. Bag turns into a tarp. Love this bag. Padded shoulder straps too.

5 Richard B.
I had been waiting to update my climbing day pack but nothing fitted my requirements until the Speed 40 came along. I wanted something big enough for ice climbing in the Canadian Rockies and short backpacking trips, yet be adjustable enough for small loads. It had to accommodate ice tools easily. It needed to be hardy enough for climbing and scrambling on granite( the downfall of my last pack). This is an extremely versatile pack, in the short time I 've had it I 've used it for ice climbing, backpacking in Patagonia and snow- kiting. I love it!

5 MITCHELL S.
After 5 days of using this pack in Wyoming for backpacking and multi- pitch climbing, I 'm stoked on how this pack worked out! The backpack handled loads of 30 pounds without trouble, and stripped down for climbing with ease. It's just the perfect shape for carrying gear in my eyes. The frame sheet is a clear step forward from previous packs in low weight and sturdy construction. I also really liked the interior zip pocket and the fabric that shed rain and hail without issue. If I could change one thing, I would lower the chest strap, because it still sits a little high. Overall, crushed it BD!

5 Dawson M.
Awesome, lightweight, and simple. A very versatile backpack that can carry a lot.

[ I ’ ve had this for a few weeks now. I love that it fits my 60m rope, draws, three pairs of shoes, harness, and any other misc gear. Very comfortable with the waist straps. They really transfer the load from your shoulders to your hips. I haven ’ t used it outside to test durability yet. Love the shoe pouch as well. Good features, large, comfortable, and great price.

5 Jeff
[ A simple, rock- centric piece of equipment. The size is perfect for a day of cragging or multi pitch routes. The shape and design make it super easy to load and unload. It's streamlined without all the fussy straps and buckles that typically get hung up in tight approaches or hauling. No ice axe loops either, this is a pure rock pack. I like that the main compartment is accessed with only one top zipper... there's no reason to have a zillion ways to get inside a 40L bag. I can load it with a large rack and webbing, a rope, water bottle and jacket with room to spare. It feels solid on my back, and carries great. The top compartment is roomy, and also accessible with a single zipper, and there is a realistically- sized zippered pocket for iPhone and/or keys. The waterproof outer material seems bomber, and built like a tank, except for the webbing strap on the waist belt which seems a bit thin, but no big deal. The waist belt itself is sturdy enough and includes small gear loops on each hip. The included mini tarp is a thoughtful touch, though I personally wish it were larger. Outside mesh pockets for shoes and chalk bag are a nice convenience. There are other similar packs out there, but this one was a big bang for the buck. Lastly, it's cool looking, I get compliments all the time.

5 Jcc3839
[ Had this crag bag for a couple weeks now. Roomy. Holds my 60 m rope, QuickDraws, water and lunch. Especially like the mesh pocket on the outside for shoes and lid bag for phone, snacks and even a small zippered pocket for keys/wallet. Nothings getting lost at the crag. We ’ ll balanced with the rope in the bottom and waist belt on. Makes those treks to the crag less daunting.

5 kh45
[ I bought this pack not too long ago and have only taken it out once, but I have no complaints so far. The material and build quality seem to be durable. In my pack I can fit my shoes( on the outside), harness, a 70m rope, belay devices, anchor materials, and a helmet with some room to spare. I can also put smaller items( keys and phone) in the large brain on top of the pack. I would assume if you fully optimized space, you could additionally put clothes on the bottom of your pack or add draws. I also love how this pack can transfer the weight onto your hips and really support whatever you packed. Overall, I 'm really happy with my purchase!

4 ClimbOn2019
[ Great pack for a day at the crag. Top loading and deep. Holds rope, rack, harness. Outside mesh pocket for shoes. Room to spare for snacks and layers. Comfortable for short to moderate approach.

5 Linda H.
I love my Beta Light 30 backpack!! The top opens up nice and wide so I can see what I ’ ve packed readily. The XS size fits me like a glove and it is so roomy yet very light weight. I have t yet tested the waterproof quality, but I have little doubt that it will hold up to the elements as proclaimed by other happy customers. I absolutely love Black Diamond products! High quality and dependable.

4 GR
I have n't used this pack but it looks great, with excellent materials, pockets and overall construction. It also seems to tick most boxes for ultra runners who may be doing multi- day events requiring a lot of mandatory gear. Some runners may question the design choice of having only one side of the vest strap capable of carrying a 500ml soft flask. Perhaps this is the preferred option for fastpacking but having capacity for two soft flasks in addition to two zippered pockets on either side like the BD Distance 15 pack would be ideal, at least for ultra runners.

4 Jean-Luc B.
As an ultralight Backpacker, I leave my honest review here. First, I have to say that I was excited when I got this backpack; the fabrics and the implementation are outstanding excellent job Black Diamond. The fast backpack idea with those extra shoulder straps makes this backpack ideal. Not only is this one waterproof or almost, but it is merely one of the best backpacks I ever owned. Believe it or not, I have tried several UL backpacks in my career. The only downside I see is that the shoulder pocket with the zipper is too tiny to hold a standard- sized cell phone comfortably. If I had a bigger one, I could guarantee it would never fit inside.

This is the best ski and multi- sport pack I have used. Simple, durable, and light. Thoughtful features& clean lines. It can fit all my gear for most days, and can be cinched down fairly small if needed. I mainly ski tour with it, but it has worked great for ice climbing, rock climbing, and just a plain 'ol hike.

5 Diana G.
Fantastic design. I love the separate avalanche gear pocket and the easy open and closure. The material is great and does not get wet in many snow conditions. Very comfortable for my smaller 5 ’ 1 frame. I just wish the smaller sized pack came with a helmet strap like the others:)

5 Eric W.
Haven ’ t used it yet but in theory, this should be a Great pack and possibly the lightest per volume pack made other than skimo packs. Also, this pack can carry fat skis. My Volkl Shiro ’s that are 151 in the tip and 129 in the tail can fit in either the a frame or diagonal cary. Plus the internal Velcro pocket is wide enough to fit a DK impact spine protector.

5 Jeff M.
Got this for ski patrol as my other BC pack was too large. This one is just right for my daily load.

5 Kelly M.

5 Bryan S.
Have been looking for a pack with running vest style straps. Lightweight and roomy enough for pack bagging.

5 Ryan Y.
The 1st version of the Distance 15 was already my favourite do- it- all mountain pack. This new version includes a revamped front pocket design with more room and options for storage. Slightly elongated shape fits more comfortably against your back, and the main closure loop is now raised so it is easier to attach the G hook/buckle.

5 Li W.
This is an amazing pack. The best system is very comfortable and keeps the pack from moving when going fast. The compression system keeps the weight close to your body. I have used it for hiking and running, and plan to use it for skiing and climbing as well.

5 Jeff
This is an update to my previous review. This version 2 does have an internal bladder sleeve and hose routing port, Nice! They 've aligned everything here, a super sweet pack. Maybe they should mention that this bladder sleeve exists in some of the marketing... thanks BD!

5 mountaindocdanny
I 've used this pack for a year now. It is my daily commuting pack for biking, running, or skiing to work year round in Anchorage. I also use this pack regularly for scrambling and climbing in the Chugach as well. The build quality is excellent and despite having probably 340- 350 user days it shows no significant signs of wear. It will bounce a little with running when I have more than 10 pounds or so in it, but this is minimal and manageable. Holds enough gear for a layer, foul weather gear, and some minimal technical gear for a day in the mountains. The water bottle pockets in the front fit a can of bear spray nicely, especially appreciated when negotiating dense alder thickets in bear country. Highly recommended!

5 Doug G.
Trail running with the older Distance 4 I was already used to the quick pole system, there ’s 2 locations to store the poles, I wanted more volume for longer outings in the backcountry for those 20+ milers, pack fits snug, carrying a soft flask or two up front and sits higher to drink from without removing bottles, a 50ounce insulated bladder in the pocket, dry sack bags for extra calories, just keeps everything organized. Look forward to many more days ahead out on the trail.

5 Santino T.
I 've always wanted a light pack that does n't flop around when I try to go light and fast! This fits the bill. Now I can romp around in the Sierras without a hefty pack. It also is n't inconvenient to go without stuff in the pack for a running vest. 10/10 would romp with again

5 Brian K.
Overall, the Distance 8 pack is as close as it gets to perfect. I picked up the Distance 8 to replace one of my other run packs; after owning the Distance 15( which isn ’ t quite as impressive as this model). The feature set is superb, materials are excellent, and the minor complaints I have with the Distance 15 don ’ t really apply to a pack of this size. Still, you might want to read my review of the Distance 15( especially if you use a reservoir). Pros on this pack vs other packs I ’ ve owned, are the shoulder straps and the taped edges, pocketing, materials, compression system, and pole sleeves. Fit and usability are superb. Cons are minimal, but if I ’ m really being nitpicky, the compression system cords are too long. When the pack is fully filled, I have a several inches of cord hanging loose. It just seems like too much and is further compounded when you do need compress the pack. Also, I have issues with the reservoir system, but on this pack I ’ m using soft flasks, so those concerns have been negated. As I mentioned, this is an excellent pack; I highly recommend.

5 Olivier B.
I have gen1 of this pack and have beaten it( and myself) hard. Over the course of many miles, yes there are things that you discover can be improved. So improve them yourself! To note, if the compression cords are too long simply cut them and tie them back together with opposing fisherman's knots. That will tidy things up and give a nice little knob to pull on. I used small red/reflective accessory cord to tie loops around the little hidden tabs to open the main compartment so it is quick and easy every time( esp. in the dark). Customize it yourself and you will love it even more, but most importantly this little pack is bomber! It still looks new after tons of use and it has the perfect capacity for a long day out: 2x 500ml flasks, first aid kit, head lamp, light puffy, light shell, beanie and sun hat, gloves, spare socks, micro towel, inreach, phone and 3000 calories. BD got this pack right, and it looks like gen2 is even better with expanded front pockets. Thanks BD!

5 Chris J.
Using this bag for long winter runs( 10- 20 miles) in the Midwest and has the right amount of room for emergency layers, food, and water. Love that the back panel has some water resistance so any sweat does n't get into the main compartment, keeping those items dry. Side and chest pockets are well thought out and easy to access but I do n't worry about anything falling out. Easy on and off and quick to open the main compartment but it closes well. My only gripe is I am in between the Medium and Large( 5'10 '', 180 lbs, 39 '' at torso). Ordered the Large but it was* just* too loose( sternum buckles had 1 '' or so between them and side 'wings' had a gap between my sides) and the Medium is almost maxed out( sternum straps have about 1 1/2 '' of tail left) with basic layers on. Would rather have it be a little snug and not bounce around though.

The Large size Betalight45 fits me very well. The shoulder straps are comfortable with a loaded pack and the hip belt sits properly to take some weight. I 'm 6' 3 '', 180lbs, my torso is 21. 5- 22 '' according to BD instructions. I measured the actual volume of the main bag to be 46L and still able to roll closed. Side/back pockets will be additional capacity.

Lite and tight to the back. Pockets on the straps are perfect for salt sticks, phone, and snacks while running/walking. Exterior pocket at bottom of shoulder strap perfect for stashing 12oz water bottle. Med kit, shell, and extras fit in main pocket well. Can store a ton in there.

We recently embarked on challenging hikes through Lassen National Park and Mount Tam with this exceptional backpack, and it exceeded our expectations in every way. The backpack strikes a perfect balance between ample storage space for all the necessary essentials and a lightweight, durable design that does n't weigh you down during long treks. The color scheme is attractive, although more color options would have been a welcome addition. The waist belt and double sternum straps provided a snug and secure fit, ensuring the pack stayed stable even during demanding trails. We found the outside pockets to be surprisingly useful, providing easy access to frequently needed items. The zippers worked flawlessly, and their seals effectively protected our belongings from rain and moisture. Despite hiking in 80º temperatures, the backpack remained remarkably breathable, keeping us comfortable throughout our journey. This backpack is a reliable companion for outdoor adventures, and we highly recommend it to fellow nature enthusiasts.

5 LISA C.
This day pack is the perfect size for me. I struggle to find a backpack that works for my petite frame and this one fits the bill. It's large enough to fit everything I need for a day hike, and the side straps are very comfortable.

5 Chitra R.

I ’ ve been waiting for someone to make exactly this for a while but have yet to find a vest for overnight use that really fits all of my needs. This is it! 5 Kane T.
A bundle of cleverly stitchless fabric and features. My beloved prev generation Distance 15 was( un) fortunately lifted off me last month. Was grateful when 22 came back in stock, and super stoked with the reconfiguration of how the straps attach to the pack, and how the pockets have been set up. Work MUCH better! A leeetle disappointed that the way the pack opens was not really addressed-- they just made the opening loop a brighter colour. Too often I grab the pack by the stretchy closure instead of the loop, so I worry for longevity of the elastic. Why not attach the elastic+ hook to the lid side, and incorporate the handle into the lid opening mechanism? Grab, unhook, pull- to- open in one motion, and wo n't accidentally grab the loose elastic of an open bag. While you 're at it, maybe swap the stretchy inside zippered pocket and use something woven and non- stretchy, for durability.:)

5 Mark M.
Super stoked on this pack. Comfortable, well thought out features, and my choice for. 1 day fast packing trip on Vancouver Island, BC

5 Benjamin G.
Awesome bag I am not a runner but I loves this for climbing and long days in the mountains. Sits high staying out of the way of my harness and being able to keep food and water handy is nice. Took it up the grand with a 60m rope and a good amount of other gear and it was surprisingly comfortable.

5 Joel F.
I ’ m really happy about this pack. I ’ m 5 ’ 9 ’ ’ slender and chose a medium, which I ’ m happy with. I use it for long days in the alpine including hiking, scrambling, and easier alpine climbing. I sometimes run on my way down hill and this works good for that option. I usually carry extra shoes( running or approach), layers and day trip essentials. I ’ ve maxed it out once with basics for an alpine climbing day trip with a simple trad rack, harness, rope, helmet, and the rest. It did all right. The pole side storage works well but I only use pole with a large heavy pack, so not very useful for me. And those compartments are a bit too small to fit other things such as shoes which would have been great if it did. I ’ ve used it only about 5 times so far but very happy about it and I highly recommend this vest style of daypack. We ’ ll see in 5 years how it is durability wise.

Priorities were lightweight, supportive, wearable while climbing, and water bladder compatibility. This bag fits the bill on all of those and is built to comfortably accommodate a harness while being to easily access gear. Where it missed the mark for me was that it's built for a male body. I 'm a teacher and I got this backpack for work. It's been perfect so far. I can easily fit my laptop, planning materials, papers to grade, and my lunch. It even fits sneakers and a change of clothes for when I run after work. Lots of space and great organizational pockets. Seems like it would be really versatile as a travel bag too. I got the beige color and it goes with everything. Plus the little pops of bright color on the inside are fun

I 've been purchasing Camelbak packs going on 16 years and now have at least one designated to each activity I do; running, MTB, Cycling, Hiking, and working outside. I would say I still love the fit and durability of each different style I have( the one I use for working outside is the first Rogue I purchased in 2008), and I 'm really happy Camelbak finally upgraded the bite valve design, but the added magnetic clip placement still needs a more permanent home to affix to on the shoulder strap or chest strap, or something. When the only place to affix it to is somewhere along the adjustable side of the chest strap it's just never in a constant place to mindlessly clip it back in. Otherwise, I 'm still a loyal and satisfied user.

5 Michael W.
I was looking for a lightweight hyrdation pack to use while cycling. This rig meets all of my requirements except for one... the process of getting rid of the plastic smell and taste of a new unit. Seems like Camelback could develop a consumer product or provide specific guidance on how to resolve this issue. I found several YouTube videos offering advice but none have worked completely yet. Otherwise, I am very pleased with the product.

I purchased this for both in- bounds and backcountry ski trips. Whether it ’s a thermos and a lunch in- bounds or BC gear, extra layers, and lunch in the backcountry, this clean, simple design has proved perfect for both. It holds plenty of gear, stays put when skiing, carries skis well on in- bounds hikes! Great purchase. It could probably use a few more light- weight divider pockets in the large compartment but that is a minor gripe for a mostly perfect ski pack.

5 Curran H.
Love the design with separate compartments for wet and dry gear. Can fit everything you need for an all day excursion, bit does n't feel like a bulky pack on the ski down.

5 Jeff B.
Really enjoyed this pack- very nice touch with the side entry zipper.

5 Michel S.
This backpack is ideal for alpine climbing. Very light, plenty of pockets to store different style of equipment.

5 Victoria B.
This has been great for day hiking already. Hip pocket perfect size, super light pack, easy open/close lid. Small stash pocket inside main bag is handy. Side access zipper very useful. Wish it had shoulder strap adjustments, otherwise great pack. Look forward to using it in winter.

Functional crag pack with plenty of room for gear! I ’ m able to fit the following inside the pack: 60m rope, double rack+ several larger cams, 20 quickdraws, harness, pair of shoes, water, chalk bag and a helmet. I ’ d typically wear my harness and strap the rope on the outside so that gives you an idea what can fit in the pack.

Very thoughtful design. Very comfortable to carry heavy loads.

5 Cody S.
This is by far my favorite day pack. The outer material is very durable and water resistant. Hip belt and shoulder straps are comfortable. I just wish that this came in a 45- 55 sized pack.

5 Matthew H.
This is my go to choice of pack for canyonerring tight slot canyons throughout Utah. Its durable enough to drag handle being dragged across sandstone. It ’s full side zipper makes it super easy to access your gear wherever you put it. It ’s the most comfortable bag that I ’ ve found that is able to take on whatever I throw at it.

[ I bought this pack for an overnight backpacking trip and I 'm really glad I did! This pack has a lot of padding on the hip and shoulder straps, which makes it very comfortable to wear. I 've been practicing with about 30 lb and this pack makes it feel easy. I really like the adjustable frame and the small, zippered pockets on the hip straps. One of the MJ employees helped me find the right sized pack, and it fits like a dream.

[ Our first packaging trip, and it was perfect! I tried on a few different packs, and this one was by far the most comfortable. Though it was uncomfortable under the straps at times, as I suspect they all would have been considering the weight I was carrying, I did not have any pains or soreness after removing the pack. Alsp, lots of pockets for organization and places to attach items to the outside of the pack.

[ Wow, just wow. Sold my 23 year old Gregory Denali Pro 105l& bought this pack. It's amazing. I love the toughness of the material and the choice of options it offers. Plenty of pockets, adjustable straps, etc to customize the load you plan on carrying. I plan on abusing this puppy all season long as I know it will stand up to it. Really excited to get out there!

5 Brian L.
[ It's light enough for me to use for small loads and big enough for me to carry a few days worth of stuff as well. I like the access options to the main compartment so I can pack items in the most accommodating way with weight where I want it but not having to unpack just to access whatever is on the bottom. Osprey quality so the only precaution I take while it's getting moved out of my hands is fasten all the clips and tuck excess strap material. I appreciate the integrated rain cover more than I thought I would. I already do recommend the pack to buddies and I would buy it again.

5 Cal335
First time Osprey customer and I purchased this based on size, looks and comfort. I used this pack on an overnight hike up a strenuous 6km up hill, through waist deep snow in places. It carried the 40- 50lbs well, the hip strap with the wire takes a lot of the weight off the shoulders. It has lots of adjustability and many pockets. I like the fact that you can unzip the front and access items in the bottom without having to unpack everything. Two side pockets that fit larger sized water bottles( Nalgene 1L) The SM/Med fits my 5'10 medium sized frame well. Osprey has gained a lifelong customer

[ Bought this a few weeks ago for a backpacking trip to Olympic National Park and it ’s been great so far! I ’ m a 5 ’ 9 ” woman with athletic/curvy build. Thoughtful compartments, detachable smaller pack, built in rain cover, and seems pretty lightweight to me. I love the green color of the pack and the neon green color of the rain cover. My other pack is a 45 Osprey from 4 years ago and this frame seems more supportive/better padded.

5 Sophia G.
[ Have only taken this pack on one trek so far but it was great. Very comfortable and distributes weight nicely. I love how convient it is to access the inside of the pack with the front pouch. Only complaint is the water bottle pocket- it ’s very difficult to get a 1. 5 liter Nalgene in and out when the pack is full.

5 Edcel
Absolutely love the day bag for backcountry camping!

5 Erin
I did n't understand the significance of a female- specific pack until I got this one-- I had been using a 75L+ unisex/ male pack for 10+ years and it always felt just a little off. The first time putting this one on, fully loaded, for a 5 day backpacking trip, I realized what a game- changer it was. Originally I was concerned going down in size by 5L, but all the pockets and stash points make up for it. It packs much better than my previous pack and the weight is distributed better and sits on my hips more comfortably. Definitely recommend!

5 Jem J.
Just got this pack as a replacement for my very old and trusted Arial 75. Despite being a guy I got the women's as my last one was a women's and it fit me so well. I am 5' 7 '' '' and 155#. Super comfortable and easy to adjust. I have just used it so far for day backcountry skiing. It easily synched down to a small size and was narrow with no wobble for skiing in the trees. Lots of pockets, I especially like the double pockets in the lid for sorting small stuff.

[ I bought this bag a few weeks ago and have been able to take it to a few crag sessions. So far, the bag has performed great! I have been able to fit all of my gear, rope, water, clothes and lunch with ease. Solid outer construction looks like it will stand up to a beating but have not been able to test that yet. A nice feature is that it stands upright independently which makes loading it easier. The shoulder straps and waist strap are also pretty confortable, more so than I was expecting for the type of bag this is. Not quite as comfortable as my backpacking pack, but I would n't expect this from the collapsible and stowable straps. Overall, I am very happy with this bag and would recommend it to someone looking for a good crag bag. Probably a little small for a big wall but honestly have not tried it for that.

5 Dominic
[ as my climbing knowledge and direction continues to improve, I required to purchase a larger more practical store for all my climbing gear. The Metolius Quarterdome is generous in space allowing for storage packs if required, its weight is tolerable for its size. I had searched for a relatively practical sized bag whereby the Quarterdome was the correct fitment for my needs. Metolius make larger and smaller sizes in similar to the Quarterdome and will cater for any required service need. I 'm certain this bag will be in continuous use and look forward with excitement to be part of this amazing beautiful sport of climbing

Seems to fit the bill pretty well so far, nice and light weight and the stashable hip belt works better than expected.

Climbing backpacks are typically made from durable, lightweight materials such as nylon or polyester. Look for packs with reinforced stitching and waterproof coatings to protect your gear from the elements. Breathable mesh panels can also enhance comfort by allowing airflow during strenuous activities.
