[ Incredible handling and climbing right out of the package with minimal coil. Superior handling to any rope I 've used before( Petzl, BD, Mammut, etc.). Even with the double dry coating, the rope is still super subtle and handles as though there's no coating on it at all.

[ I have done about 35 pitches with this rope. Aside from the normal stress getting twists out that most new ropes give i am really impressed with the handling of this rope and how easily it feeds through belay devices. It still catches falls really nicely though. I have used this rope with a rope bag except on multipitches so i am surprised at how much dirt this rope has picked up. Although we did get caught in the rain once and it may have been a little damp on the next outing. I will give it a wash and evaluate further

In my initial use, I found the rope a great option for alpine use when you want a full strength rope. The dry coat seemed to work great, as I had it in the snow with no freezing issues. At this price point, I recommend the rope.

[ I have a friend who bought a similar style and priced rope in another brand on this site and it was so sticky and still is. This has been a dream to work with right out of the box. I appreciate the extra length for awkward length repels in El Petrero Chico. Highly recommend.

[ You could n't pay me to switch ropes. This is one beautiful, high- quality rope that leaves all the climbers that have seen it in awe. I bought this rope because it was one of the highest recommended ropes on the internet. I have been out at the New River Gorge in West Virginia with it and it performed amazing. It is a 9. 5mm so it fits perfectly within the three star rating for the GriGri 2 and the GriGri+. This rope feeds SMOOTH. I use the GriGri+ and man, I have had so many people comment about how great the rope feeds through the belay devices. It gives the perfect amount of smooth without sacrificing safety. I gave the 4 stars on durability because I have n't had the rope for long so I just do n't know it's durability. It also is a bit smaller so naturally there will be more wear, quicker on the rope. I will say there is a little bit of a marketing error. The gold rope color is definitely gold with black dots within it. It's NOT brown/black with some gold in it. I 've included a picture of me climbing with it where you can actively see that the color, even from afar.

The Crag Classic offers excellent handling, making it suitable for various climbing scenarios, from single- pitch sport routes to multi- pitch trad climbs. Its supple nature ensures smooth feeding through belay devices, enhancing the overall climbing experience. With a sheath proportion of 42%, this rope demonstrates impressive durability. It withstands abrasion effectively, making it ideal for rugged terrains and extended use.

It's a solid rope at a good price. Not the most durable, but it feels good and feeds well. It is a great all around rope. Not much more to say.
5
Finn K
This is a great rope for the price and size. It is a good all around rope for the crag. It is not a dry rope, so it ’s important to only use in ideal conditions, but for someone like me where I will only be climbing outdoors if its nice out, it works great!

I used this rope at least 2 days per week all summer mainly sport climbing near my max grade and taking the occasional whip. I 've used it for multi- pitch through a guide- style belay device, as well as Neox and Grigri. It's supple on the hands and does n't pick up much dirt. Highly recommend!

Fantastic rope and durability. I buy new rope every year and this one has not disappointed. I went with the larger 9. 8 vs 9. 5 and it ’s great for Trad days and normal wear and tear. If you are heavy and belayer a lighter individual just need to ensure they are really good with catches. The 9. 8 has a little less elasticity than the smaller ropes and could create harder catches. But no issues with good belayers knowing how to catch. Rope has stayed cleaner then other classic crag ropes and doesn ’ t seem to collect dirt as easily. Overall would recommend.

It's nothing glamorous, but so far it's held up extremely well. Rope is easy to clip and feeds well through various belay devices.

iIf you 're looking for a good, do everything well, climbing rope, this is your rope. [ Bought this rope for glacier travel and potentially rappelling into crevasses. Climbed Mount Baker this past weekend with a 5 person team using it and worked like a charm. Rope sat overnight on some wet snow and felt as dry the next morning as when we put it down. Rope also got stepped on a few times with crampons with 0 damage to the sheath which was nice. [ This is the first climbing rope that I have purchased, and I have taken it out twice now to top rope. I really like how the neon green pops on the rock. The rope has lots of give that makes an unexpected fall like riding a Johnny- Jump- Up. Very comfortable. I also really like the bright yellow end markers but those are tape and I think they will fall off soon. There is a middle mark on the rope, but it ’s not bright, so meh.

I climb at a gym that only requires a 30m rope, so I can buy this rope in a 60m and use the hot knife to make two gym ropes. I put a lot of mileage and take a lot of whippers every week on this rope and can honestly say it's the best rope for the job. 9. 5mm is a perfect size( not too thick, not too thin for any GriGri), and I 've never encountered early soft spots, sheath slippage or other issues that plague other ropes since I 've switched to this rope several years ago. I have purchased three of these ropes and the quality is consistent as well!

These are great ropes! I use mine for ice climbing, it is my second season climbing with them and they are still in great shape and still dry. I love that they are balanced in sturdiness and being not too heavy. I really enjoy using double ropes since it splits the weight to carry between the climbing party. [ Pros: awesome, noticeable color at the crag. Dry treatment. stretch is minimal, making my friends really enjoy using this rope. Cons: the diameter seems a little small for a 9. 8 mm rope. Just something to think about, I often give my friends a heads up before they us It.

You can not go wrong with Mammut ropes. They are reliable, easy to flake( well, as easy as that can be), and smooth through the belay device. This is a great go- to rope, treated for some of our damper crags and surprise rain. Evident quality boosts confidence while high on the route. As I have written in past Mammut reviews, I am never afraid to put loved ones up on their ropes. Happy climbing, y ’ all!

Cooper H
I ’ ve used this rope for two years now for both sport and trad climbing, as well as top roping. Not only do I appreciate the dry- treatment and its ability to keep the rope dry if a surprise shower comes, but it also increases the durability of the rope which I can definitely tell the difference in. Though the dry treatment has faded with various washings, I was able to use the rope for ice climbing before that and it worked very well in those conditions. Overall, I would highly recommend this rope to other climbers. I have a 70m version of it, and it ’s been great across the country to access different climbs.

If I were to own only one rope, this would be it. The balance of durability, weight, and elasticity make it the rope I reach for the most when I am headed to the crag. It also feeds well through a grigri and atc style devices. I 've used other ropes that are more supple or lighter, but are less durable or stretch too much. I use this rope for single pitch and multi pitch trad mostly, and sometimes for toprope and sport. This rope balances them all nicely.

Great alpine rope! Extremely light and easy to pack, which makes it excellent for alpine work or if you don ’ t feel like carrying a 8. 5- 10mm rope up to a route. I haven ’ t taken any big whips on the rope, but I ’ ve had to abort a few routes and it has plenty of elasticity to soak up a fall. My only complaint is that it does like to kink up after a couple climbs forcing you to ‘ untwist ’ the rope, but since it ’s so thin and light that ’s somewhat expected. I bought a pair( orange, blue) for alpine routes. So far I really like these ropes.

I 'm on my second set of these ropes and they have never let me down, except when I want to to go down. Their weight, dry treatment and durability are fantastic. After a long, hard season of big ice and mixed routes, they are showing very little wear. Once the dry treatment is worn they will become my go to for multi pitch rock. I highly recommend these if you are looking to go fast and light and want the high quality that Mammut is know for.

This is my go- to rope for anything in the alpine. From 5th class rock to glacier travel I have used this rope extensively in a variety of terrain. The bright orange is a great contrasting color. Despite its small diameter is very durable and has survived many crampons and sharp rock edges over the past year.

Always glad to see them getting lighter and lighter! So far I 've only taken this rope on one trip( multipitch in Red Rock) so I can not speak to durability, but it handled well and was nice and light to carry.

This rope is light and has a great feel. It ’s easy to work with and runs smoothlv through devices.

I have had two sets of these ropes and have used them for both alpine trad routes and ice climbing. Would recommend.

[ I love this rope for multi- pitch use and alpine climbs. It is lighter than other ropes which makes approaches more bearable. I just wish it was bi- colored and then it would be the perfect rope.

Phil
[ I 've used these for several months now. Great `` feel ''. Solid in my ATC guide and gri- gri. Sheath seems to wear a little faster than my burly older 60m single rope.
5
Bill
[ This rope has a dry cover treatment so it's slick enough to keep the grit of Smith Rock out of it, and just small enough to belay from above with a Reverso comfortably. I 'm pretty happy with the handling and feel of the rope so far and the weight per meter is without question amazing. My only question is in regards to durability when rapping over sharp edges, but with the Unicore peace of mind that concern is much less so than other ropes I 've used.

[ This rope is excellent for alpine pursuits with long approaches. Lightweight yet reliable for ice and rock, it has a silky touch for smooth belays and fast rappels. Useful middle mark and water treatment make this rope perfect for all- season in the Rockies, the Cascades, or the Andes.

[ I bought this last month and used it for some multi pitch. The rope is super smooth and the dry coat is durable. i 'm looking forward to taking it out on the glacier soon because it's also pretty light!!

I would recommend this rope to be your long day multi- pitch and work horse rope that can take a beating. ... its been used on 6- 10 climbs since I bought it, and its extremely durable, it was dragged up a lot of sharp rock with no fuzz forming on the outer
5
Bill
[ I used this rope for the first time yesterday on a granite low- angle slab. The twill weave of the sheath makes for a very `` slippery '' feel, and it slithered off of every sloping ledge we belayed on! It just wanted to slide downhill. A good thing, actually, as it handles well and always came down fully when pulled down after rappelling. A confidence- inspiring rope!
5

[ I bought the 2x dry smoke maxim a couple weeks ago, and I absolutely love it. its been used on 6- 10 climbs since I bought it, and its extremely durable, it was dragged up a lot of sharp rock with no fuzz forming on the outer sheath. also for me its the perfect stiffness. I would recommend getting it if you want a super nice workhorse rope.

Charlie
[ This rope lasted a good while getting beat up on roof climbs in NC. Maxim's sheath design is unique and performed well over its use. The 9. 9mm version of this rope does n't do a great job getting through a gri gri, but it will still look brand new after working your project all day. I would recommend this rope to be your long day multi- pitch and work horse rope that can take a beating.

I get a bit peevish when my kid steps on the rope so I bought this one specifically for use at the mini crags where we climb. It is a great weight to take the beating of the sand and grit that is no doubt going to get ground into it and I like the color.

[ Exactly what I expected. Great colours. Not too stiff. Have only used a few times indoor so far so not much to report on durability. Great for alpine quads.
5

[ Love this cordellette, perfect size for setting up a quad for an anchor. The fact that it is sewn makes it way easier to use. Not having to tie a double fisherman ’s and having the low profile sewn portion that binds the cordellette together makes a big difference in the ease of use.

[ I bought this rope to use as a cordelette for building anchors at the top of trad climbs. It works really well and has excellent strength rating. I found the rope a little bit stiff when I first got it but it softened up with some usage. BTW I turned this rope into a cordelette by tying the ends together in a double fisherman's. Highly recommend. I would never lead a climb without a rope like this to string up in emergency scenarios.

Captainhack
[ This rope is so small compact and strong perfect for anchors it's crazy how small and strong it is but do n't under estimate its strength and make sure you tie proper knots since this is a technical cord

I bought this about a month ago to use for setting up anchors on trad climbs and for top rope. I had never used Cordelette before, however, I find it extremely easy to equalize with 3 or 4 points. I was a little nervous when I first saw how small this product was, but after setting anchors and climbing on them I am really impressed with it. I would and have already trusted my life to this product. A+.

Beans
[ This is the first climbing rope that I have purchased, and I have taken it out twice now to top rope. I really like how the neon green pops on the rock. The rope has lots of give that makes an unexpected fall like riding a Johnny- Jump- Up. Very comfortable. I also really like the bright yellow end markers but those are tape and I think they will fall off soon. There is a middle mark on the rope, but it ’s not bright, so meh.

[ Despite the fact that this rope is constructed of recycled ropes, it is a truly solid dynamic climbing rope, but still easy to manipulate/flake. The color scheme is awesome( to me, may not be to someone who likes more uniform color), and the price is right.

cocobeanclimber
[ I purchased this rope a few months ago. I love the diameter, slim but not flimsy. I bought a 70m to suffice on multi pitch routes and so far I ’ m nothing but impressed. Catches whips like a dream, not too much stretch. Highly recommend! Wouldn ’ t recommend if you ’ re a sucker for colors, mine kinda looks like vomit, but I figure it ’ ll get dirty and nasty eventually anyway.

mastercontrolprogram
[ One of my go- to ropes for canyoning. Thick enough for easy bare- handed rappelling and good control yet light weight and packs small considering it is 9mm. I think it gets a little bouncy for my taste when wet so I use it primarily in dry canyons but it has handled fine in wet canyons as well. Great abrasion resistance with its Technora sheath! I currently own three of these in different lengths

[ The Sterling Rope C- IV 9mm Rope is a fantastic rope for canyoneering. It's supple yet rugged and durable, lightweight, and stacks in a bag easily. Best used for dry canyons but can also be used in water.

The rope is very lightweight, perfect to take anytime you go hiking. It can be used for many things, such as hanging your food in bear country.
Lightweight climbing ropes are designed to reduce the overall weight carried during ascents, making them ideal for long climbs and multi-pitch routes. Their reduced weight can enhance mobility and ease of handling, allowing climbers to focus on technique and safety. Additionally, they often feature advanced materials that provide strength and durability without the bulk.
The diameter of a lightweight climbing rope can significantly affect its performance and suitability for different climbing styles. Thinner ropes are generally lighter and easier to handle, but they may have reduced durability and impact force absorption. Consider your climbing type, experience level, and the specific conditions you'll encounter when selecting the diameter that best meets your needs.
Dynamic climbing ropes are designed to stretch under load, which helps absorb the energy of a fall, making them ideal for sport climbing and traditional climbing. In contrast, static ropes have minimal stretch and are better suited for applications like rappelling or hauling gear. Understanding these differences is crucial for selecting the right type of rope for your climbing activities.
While lightweight climbing ropes are excellent for many climbing scenarios, their suitability can vary based on the type of climbing you plan to do. They are often preferred for sport and alpine climbing due to their reduced weight, but may not be the best choice for heavy-duty applications like rescue or industrial use. Always assess the specific requirements of your climbing style before making a decision.
The material used in lightweight climbing ropes plays a critical role in their performance, durability, and handling characteristics. Ropes made from high-strength synthetic fibers tend to offer excellent abrasion resistance and longevity while maintaining a lightweight profile. Additionally, some materials may provide enhanced water resistance, which can be beneficial in wet conditions.
Proper care and maintenance of lightweight climbing ropes are essential for ensuring their longevity and performance. Factors to consider include regular inspection for signs of wear or damage, proper storage away from direct sunlight and moisture, and cleaning methods that do not compromise the rope's integrity. Following manufacturer guidelines can help maintain the rope's strength and safety over time.
