I ordered these in a medium and a small due to being unsure of what size. I can honestly fit both. I ’ m 140 pounds, athletic build, 5 ’ 4 ”- 5 ’ 5 ” tall. The smalls for more like a size 4- 6, tighter athletic look. Medium size fits with a lot looser fit, especially in the thigh& waste area( slide right up with no stretching needed in the waste). The medium would be for a person maybe size 6- 8. If I ’ m going for a loose flowy look or if you have thicker legs/thighs, I would say medium. I prefer the more fitted athletic look so smalls are more comfortable feeling for a more athletic outfit look. The small has to stretch in the waste a little for me to put on and is tighter around my thighs than the medium. Size small or athletic look( go running in or could wear at the gym or ball field) and medium for casual look( put with a solid free fly shirt for a casual outing). If this confuses more than helps I ’ ll post photos if needed

[ This is the second time I have purchased these shorts. I finally wore out the first pair which I purchased 2 years ago. I know the shorts are designed for fishing and ocean- related stuff. Yes, I use them for everyday wear as well as for the sport I play which is Lawn Bowls. The side pocket is great for holding everything from my lip balm to my measure for bowls. The only thing I find that is not so good is the stitching along the bottom of front pockets had to be resewn as this just does n't seem to hold. Other than that This is a great pair of shorts.

They are great for hiking, sight- seeing, and everyday use. I was worried about ordering them online without having the chance to try them on. However, their fit is great. I was also disappointed that when I ordered them the only color in my size was Earthtone. However, I am actually happy with the color and think it looks better in person. I have hand washed them, line dried, machine washed, and machine dried. They dry quickly, have a bit of stretch( which is great for being active), and did n't show the massive amounts of sweat in hot, humid climates. Honestly, these shorts have paid for themselves. [ These are my favorite shorts! The sizing does run small, so size down one size, but the sizing has been consistent year after year. The leg openings are wide enough to make the shorts comfortable and the length is flattering without showing your cheeks. I ’ m glad that I ’ ve purchased some of the great colors throughout the years that are no longer offered( pink, orange, macaw blue, collegiate navy, green, and nocturnal). I had to exchange and get a size down from my normal size as they were too large. Sizing down and they fit well. For reference I am 5'10 '' and weight 145lb. [ I have a tough time finding shorts that fit me well. When I do find them, I buy them in bulk, in every color. My last favorites were Columbia( from 4- 5 years ago), which I had to `` retire '' this year... they 've seen a lot of wear, and have held up great! I recently ordered 4 different styles in a few different sizes. This style fit me the best, so I bought 5 pair. I am 5' 7 '', 130 lbs, and 60 yo. I have long, lean legs, and a short waist. I have shorts that fit me well from size 4- 8, just depends on the style. I tried size 6 in the 5 '' inseam, but the waist was a little snug, so I returned for size 8, which fit perfectly. I still have room in the hips, but they fit nicely and give me some shape. And my legs do n't look like sticks hanging out of a barrel!;) This fabric has a nice, silky feel to it. Some of the others I tried were a bit stiff and `` papery '' feeling. I highly recommend these.

I work outside, and finding comfortable shorts that are n't too short is definitely tricky. I would suggest sizing down, based on the size chart I needed a 2X, but I tried on the XL in store and they have PLENTY of room. They have a 6 '' inseam, which is a little longer than I usually like, but will still be comfortable. Rated durability a 3 because I have n't really put them to the test yet.

I bought these to use with my road bike, which has a cushioned but very narrow seat. If I go for a ride longer than 45 minutes, I usually am sore along my pubic bone. These shorts helped a lot with my 2 hour bike ride this weekend—no discomfort at all! I was also pleased with the fit. I ’ m 5 ’ 6 ”, 160lbs with most of the weight carried in my thighs, so I often have trouble finding shorts that don ’ t squeeze too much and don ’ t ride up. These were long enough that they grabbed my thigh at the narrowest part by the knee, and didn ’ t ride up because of the nonslip band around the leg opening. These have a mid rise, which is not what I normally go for because I ’ m afraid they will fall down, but these stayed put! I got a size M for reference.
