I have had trouble with my previous walking boots, expensive and cheap ones, all leather or gortex. They have either cracked despite looking after them correctly or they leak after a few months!! I wore these hikers during my recent trip to Northern California. My feet stayed dry during heavy downpours of rain on trail hikes and walking on the beach. My only problem was the tongue on my left shoe rubbed against my ankle. I wore thicker socks and that helped the situation.

Took my Merrells from South Carolina to Wyoming on a road trip stopped in Chattanooga and went down into Ruby Falls inside the mountain walk to national park in St. Louis and just walked around downtown Cheyenne Wyoming on this trip.
