` I am a 50 year old occasional hiker who has n't had a new pack since college. Just spent 3 days hiking in the Catskills with this pack on my back for 7- 8 hours a day and I love it. Plenty of space and super comfortable. I barely noticed I was even carrying a pack, had zero shoulder or back strain, and like the frame that allows for some airflow through the back area- a big plus hiking in 80+ degree weather. Never had to use the internal rainfly, but that was definitely a selling point for me. Highly recommend!

I 've been using this Surge backpack since 2019 and it has been great! I 've heard my family's thoughts on the newer model of the same backpack and they are not as impressed. The straps are more prone to breaking and the seams have started tearing pretty early in the life of their backpack. This being said, my older model has been so great! It's gone through years of hauling notebooks, folders, textbooks, water bottles, and clothes for practice after school. One of the shoulder straps did begin to tear last year( 2024) slightly but a quick stitch- job has got it back to working order. I would definitely buy a North Face backpack again!

[ First off, the open front flap makes accessing my gear at the crag so easy. The built in rope tarp is lightweight, incredibly sturdy and just the right size( i use a 70m rope). I like how breathable the straps and back are even though that is not the main thing that I enjoy about this hard structured, EVA- molded backpanel with HDPE framesheet allows me to carry just about any weight on my pack up any approach, steep or long without being bothered. I 've gotten to take it out both XC skiing and on some winter hikes and it's the perfect size for an extra layer, snacks, first aid kit, and any other gear you might need on the trail. I love the magnet strip on the water bladder that nicely holds the bladder straw in space when not using it, and easy to drink out of while on the trail. The pockets are well thought out and easily accessible. I do wish the side water bottle pockets were a little larger to fit my nalgene, but definitely not a dealbreaker since it has the integrated bladder.

As an ultralight Backpacker, I leave my honest review here. First, I have to say that I was excited when I got this backpack; the fabrics and the implementation are outstanding excellent job Black Diamond. The fast backpack idea with those extra shoulder straps makes this backpack ideal. Not only is this one waterproof or almost, but it is merely one of the best backpacks I ever owned. Believe it or not, I have tried several UL backpacks in my career. The only downside I see is that the shoulder pocket with the zipper is too tiny to hold a standard- sized cell phone comfortably. If I had a bigger one, I could guarantee it would never fit inside.

I have n't used this pack but it looks great, with excellent materials, pockets and overall construction. It also seems to tick most boxes for ultra runners who may be doing multi- day events requiring a lot of mandatory gear. Some runners may question the design choice of having only one side of the vest strap capable of carrying a 500ml soft flask. Perhaps this is the preferred option for fastpacking but having capacity for two soft flasks in addition to two zippered pockets on either side like the BD Distance 15 pack would be ideal, at least for ultra runners.

The hip belt sits properly, and the weight balances nicely. I was able to comfortably carry more weight than I expected, and I felt stable going up and down hills. It was great- I trekked along without having to think abut my pack. My favorite part of this pack is the shoulder straps. I 've had this pack since 2006. It's been on many adventures with me, from backpacking in Canyonlands to training hikes in Teluride to travel through Taiwan. For several years, I used this bag for grocery shopping and going to the laundry mat, when it was often 70 pounds. It's so comfortable that even fully loaded, I can easily dance while wearing it. This pack has survived bear attacks, rain storms, deserts, baggage handlers, and having its capacity tested endlessly. After 15 years, I 've noticed the first sign of wear- a small tear in a seam. I 'm happy with the longevity of the product, and I 'm heartened that I can send it to Osprey for a professional- level repair for just the cost of one- way shipping. Between my carryon suitcase and this back pack, I have more than enough packing space! My favorite feature is the day bag that attaches to the front of the main back pack. I 've been using this Surge backpack since 2019 and it has been great! I 've heard my family's thoughts on the newer model of the same backpack and they are not as impressed. The straps are more prone to breaking and the seams have started tearing pretty early in the life of their backpack. This being said, my older model has been so great! It's gone through years of hauling notebooks, folders, textbooks, water bottles, and clothes for practice after school. One of the shoulder straps did begin to tear last year( 2024) slightly but a quick stitch- job has got it back to working order. I would definitely buy a North Face backpack again!

I found I needed to have it just under the longest setting to fit me correctly with the middle of the hip belt on my iliac crest. My torso is 17 '' so I purchased the S/M size expecting it to be on the shortest setting. I found I needed to have it just under the longest setting to fit me correctly with the middle of the hip belt on my iliac crest. I think you might be able to squeeze into this pack if your torso is 19 '' maximum. Easily the most comfortable pack I have tried on, very happy with my purchase.

[ Only used it once since I ’ ve received it. Seems well made, I like the various compartments for keeping things organized, well priced, and weighs much less than my old backpack. Easily fits a 70m rope, climbing shoes, harness, helmet, and water bladder. And there ’s still lots of room!

[ I bought another version of this backpack for myself earlier this summer and I loved it so much my girlfriend ended up getting this one. Great size for a smaller camping trip. Fits comfy and the pockets are located in great spots. Does n't feel cheap and has yet to cause any issues for me. Would recommend getting a front pouch for snacks to go along with this just cause reaching into the bag while walking is not that easy. Not too difficult to grab water bottles from side pockets which is better than most larger bags.

I bought this for my first mountaineering excursion. A nearly 9000 foot elevation in Patagonia of Cerro Creston. Held my crampons and ice axe perfectly during the 1 hr+ hike to the base of the mountain and super comfortable to wear. Love the attached gear loops around the waist band. Side straps held my mountaineer boots very solidly until needed. Functional, lightweight, simplistic, and efficient.

[ Just returned from the BWCA with my Aether 65. This is a nice pack that worked well for a 4 day self supported journey deep in the Boundary Waters of Minnesota. Our trip included 5 portages with 3 having quite a bit of undulation. The pack was weighed down with 44lbs of gear and was comfortable( as much as 44lbs of gear can be, definitely dropping some weight on the next trip). I liked it because I typically start trips like this fresh and strong and have my pack set up to that posture with quick( on the fly) adjustments being made as I ’ m flagging from hiking and paddling for hours. Nice pack that is well thought out with all the features you need and none that are useless. Both of my sons were wearing the same pack with zero complaints. Nice product that ’s worth the investment.

this is a very simple pack. pretty much just a fabric sack with a roll top closure, but that's honestly what i want from a climbing pack. it's durable, and there are a few nice features, like a hidden back panel pocket for a phone/protein bar access while wearing. other than that it's big enough for lunch, layers, and water, which is all i want to take with me on a climb. i slung a rope on top easy enough for a longish red rocks approach. only nitpick is that i would probably like some daisy chains, but i can add those myself if i want. overall, great pack for the money.

It ’s a tight fit but I can get all my sport gear, plus a layer, and some snacks. Secured the rope to the top of the bag. Super comfy to climb in. Sits high enough on my back I can still use my chalk bag. Used this on a 4 pitch multipitch and look forward to many more days climbing with this!

Another great pack by black diamond. This one is made for quick excursions, and it feels bigger than you 'd think. It feels closer to 20l, and quite durable. A nice little pack, I would definitely recommend it!!
