Just bought one of these chum pots. Nice heavy construction so I do n't have to add an 8 oz. sinker to it. I saw another review where someone lost their entire rig, so, WARNING!!!! The cotter pins that come with the chum pot are to be taken off and thrown away. The are nothing but assembly and `` packing '' material. The clips provided will go thru the lid and the body of the pot. When clipped into place, they will stand straight up and the lid will be tightly closed. How you tie a line to it is up to you. I use a 3. 5' long piece of rope. Tie one end to each clip with a bowline. Find the center, pull it upward and make a loop using and overhand knot. I then use a 50' rope with a locking carabiner clip as my lanyard. If you plan on using this chum pot for winter flounder, I would suggest painting it bright yellow.
