I absolutely love this style. I believe this is my 8 or 9th pair of the Hookipa's. Got my first pair in Maui, in the early 90's. They are light, feel great, good for all activities- driving, sports, fishing, beach, and so on. Right now I have 3 pairs- one I wear, one in my car and a backup in my gun safe. I live in FL and these tame the sun just perfect. Last thing, the MJ lenses in the Hookipa's are super, and very scratch resistant and light weight. I have 2 with bronze lenses and the rest are grey. Of the first 6 pairs I had, either the frames or temples broke, and one of my Labrador's chewed up a pair too.

Ordered a pair to try them out in the Matte Black+ ChromaPop Glacier Photochromic Copper Blue Mirror Lens. Liked them so much I just ordered 3 more pairs for all my kit bags so I never forget them. I ’ m out in the back country, skiing and snowshoeing a month strait during the winter in the Sierra Nevadas and these glasses have held up great with constant abuse.

I got these glasses mostly for mountaineering. They ’ re so stylish that I wear them pretty much anywhere unlike other glacier glasses. They ’ re also no large shades that you don ’ t wan na wear unless you ’ re doing some sport activity. These glasses are just the right size and shape that make them quite stylish even day to day. The crispness of the glasses are phenomenal. I ’ ve never owned a pair that is as sharp. The best part is the auto dimming feature. Honestly, life changing. Can wear these glasses in varying conditions from shaded areas to bright sunlight and you won ’ t have to take them off or switch them up. Don ’ t waste your money on other shades. I went with the photochromic glacier lenses. My eyes are very sensitive to sunlight, so I thought it would be a good idea to invest in a pair of real, actual glacier glasses. I have a few other pairs of Smith sunglasses and ski goggles with 10% VLT lenses, and I always have to squint and end up with dry, sore eyes after a day in the snow. For my first test, I took them skinning up Palmer Glacier this weekend. It was a full- sun day, and my eyes were very comfortable; I was barely squinting and made it back to the car feeling like I was n't going to go blind. I was also very impressed with the clarity and contrast of the snow; I could see every little detail in the snow and up on the mountain. Although I bought these mostly for ski mountaineering, I think I 'm going to also get a pair of Smith Pursuit's with the photochromic lenses purely for spring ski days and winter backcountry. I imagine the wider coverage will be a little better for field- of- view and look cooler under my Smith helmet.

I was looking for optimal clarity, low light and high light coverage, in a comfortable all day- day after day sunglass... These do it all. Over the years I 've owned sunglasses from a lot of brands. These might be the best, usually if you want the best lenses you go after glass fishing sunglasses as they have their focus on optical clarity in varying light. BUT these knock those out of the park. Living in 6 months of snow I 've been putting these to work on pre dawn light, flat light, vertigo inducing clouds and fog banks as well as full sun bluebird days skinning. I think the photochromic( I got the glacier photochromic copper blue mirror) is what helps in low light. It is picking up the blue from the snow in shadows. So I 'm seeing definition on snow that I have n't picked up on with other sunglasses. In full sun the lenses change quickly and have the usual Chromapop magic- Oakley prizm. Whatever color enhancement you want to compare. The frames on these are lighter than most and also have a gripier/spongier feel. The temples are bendable so they can be fit to your head and the megol rubber grip make them `` lock '' in place and feel very secure. The times you really do n't want to lose them the strap is added security/bonus. All that makes them comfortable all day with or without hats etc. The coverage is perfect with the side shields. I get no light leaking through and a comfortable fit but also like I can take the side shields off if I want. Fogging, I was concerned these would fog on heavy snow/wet days when moving uphill and sweating with those side shields in place- but I have n't had an issue. It seems like keeping the internal side of the lens is key there as that's where all the tech is on these glasses.
