Love this rack overall. Larger weight capacity, more convenient storing( foldable) and it has locks. Three primary boxes checked! I also like the accessories that are available, making this a very versatile rack! Opportunities: One issue is that it does n't lock in the upright position when your bikes are n't loaded.( I usually leave my rack on my hitch from spring to fall. Not'ny more!) Granted, this `` minus '' is minor because it's simple to hitch and unhitch. I just assumed this would be a default feature on any hitch rack. Another observation is a narrower zone per bike. The distance tray- to- tray is on the EPOS is 9. 5 '' vs 11. 5 '' on my older T2 Pro XT. We have 2 e- bikes, which are pretty big. For this reason, we exchanged our EPOS for the EPOS 3. Now I 'm happy!

This is my second time reviewing this product — the first written shortly after misplacing one of the rubber bumpers between the rack and stays while in a frustrated frame of mind; incidentally, the missing piece just resurfaced following a month of hiding between the coils of my apartment ’s radiator. — during the interim I had been using a DIY substitute part I crafted from an inner tube. Yes- the bumpers are prone to falling out when putting on and removing the rack and this is pretty annoying. But the fact is this rack is, overall, a fine product! Anyway, combined my two reviews average a rating of four stars and I would say that this is accurate. I ’ ve owned Thule racks before and never had issues so I bought this one based on previous experience. I ’ m glad I did, it was easy to put together and its first install on the vehicle was easy enough. I put two heavy beach cruiser bikes on it and it handled the weight easily. Probably could not fit a third adult cruiser on it, but a kids bike could or three mountain or road style bikes would likely fit. Great purchase.

Saris Bones 3. First bike rack I 've ever owned. So far it's worked out quite well. No scratches on my trunk or bumper. No issue with the mounting onto my car, except that it's a little tricky on the first try. Takes me a good 10 to 15 mins to mount onto my vehicle. Very stable on the road. Rubber mounts on the arms keeps the rack from slipping& helps prevent scratching your paint. The adjustable straps keeps the rack in place. While the anti- sway straps keeps my mountain bike secure. I love how it folds, and can be easily put away for storage. It's well designed and over all a good bike rack. The injected molded frame made with 100% recyclable materials is a plus, since you do n't have to worry about rust occurring. Having a selection of colors to choose from is a nice touch. Be warned though. If your bike has an unconventional frame, It's important you purchase the Saris Bike Beam. It 'll make mounting your bike a whole lot easier. And be sure to carry bungee cords. You 'll need them to help keep wheels from rotating while commuting.;)

Happy with my purchase. Unit is not as long as I thought it was. Checked to make sure before purchasing as I have a very long wheelbase e- bike. Would have liked to see tire guides a little higher to prevent the front wheel twisting once it is strapped down. Problem solved by making sure the front wheel axle doesn ’ t protrude past the end of the guide rails. Once you realize there is an order to strapping your bike down the unit works well and holds the bike in a very stable position. I really like the locks on the upright top tube clamps as it makes it extremely difficult for someone to remove the bike from the rack and you don ’ t have to fiddle with pulling out cable locks. Like that the top tube clamps are telescopic; much superior to the Easy Fold rack, with fixed clamps that made carrying two bikes a massive headache. Also really like the lights and license plate position, although it does take a little while to realize your vehicle is a couple of feet longer than it was. No more tickets for having a covered license plate. Bikes are easy to load and rack carries two heavy e- bikes in a stable manner. Recommended.

Very impressed with the design, fit, and function of the GateMate PRO. It took a little fiddling with it to get it to sit on the tailgate correctly( I only had one set of pad blocks over the top at first) but once I readjusted it fit my RAM 1500 perfectly. The straps took a bit of finesse to work through the gap between the bottom of the gate and the truck bed, but that is more a function of how the truck was designed. I plan to keep a small piece of bent coat hanger wire in one of the pockets to help me pull the straps through the gap when I install it again. The Cannondale mountain bikes we hauled sat neatly in the cradle of the foam pads and the straps secured them incredibly well to the truck. For all of the goofballs that complained about the length of the strap in the other reviews- All you have to do is wrap the strap around the frame tube one extra revolution THEN thread it through the plastic ring and cinch it tight. Makes me wonder how some people manage to find their way out of bed in the morning, but I digress. This method of one extra wrap around the frame tube provides a really nice grip on the frame. We drove a couple of hundred miles so far with the bikes strapped down and they do n't wiggle or bounce at all. The mesh storage pockets are a nice touch, as is the cutout that provides access to the tailgate handle and backup camera. The material that sits against the vehicle paint is incredibly soft. Sure, there may be cheaper options out there but they certainly do n't appear to be as well- made as this one. VERY pleased with the purchase!

I ’ ve installed this GateMate Pro in my F150 Lightning. The gate is a couple of inches too wide to cleanly fit inside the frame of my Retrax tonneau, but because the GateMate is flexible I ’ m able to squeeze it in enough to close the tailgate. I might trim a bit off the sides to fix this. The product materials are strong and seem like they ’ ll last a few years. I like the pouches where I can store small items like gloves or bike tools.

It has almost no movement when driving around. Bikes load up pretty easily once you get the hang of it. I think they could have come up with a better style of strap, but they work

Originally I purchased the traditional car bike rack but with having two mountain bikes the fit was just two tight and the bikes were are odd angles. I returned it to Dicks with no issues and purchased this one. It took a few minutes to setup but for the most part it is pretty straightforward. The rack is not to heavy and works very well. It is not a heavy duty as the original bike rack I returned but I suspect it will hold up just fine. If I was to pick out any weak points it would be the plastic adjustment knobs other than it should be fine.
