There is a band of fabric there which is fitted but also stretchy. I am 5' 9 '' and appreciate that the pants feel just right and not too short. The chamois is in a mid- range of density in my opinion. I wear the pants comfortably one day but the next day I switch to other shorts with a firmer density foam pad.
