[ This is an excellent grill for camping. It is small enough to be portable but large enough for cooking a lot of food at once. It heats up fast and the heat is easy to control. There are two separate burners. The inside grate is in two pieces and we got the pan accessory so we can be grilling on one side and heating stuff in a pan on the other side. The drip pan is great. You just put water in it and any grease drips right in the water making it so easy to clean up. The regulator is easy to attach and simple so it would be really hard to strip it accidentally. Overall, the best grill we have had and we 've been camping for a long time.

Its nice to store everything inside under the griddle when not in use: cooking utensils and a couple of propane bottles. Has its own grease trap that works well too. Wish the hard cover came with.

I 've been using my BBQ grill box with my Explorer for 10+ years. It has been used as an every- day grill, camping grill, party grill, baseball tournament grill, etc... very heavy usage. Zero issues. I estimate that I have prepared over 300 meals with it. The grill box has now worn out( the grate plate below the cooking surface finally rusted and broke through and is coming apart). I just ordered another BBQ grill box and expect another 10 years and 300 meals- thanks!

The grates are n't perfectly lined up with the side that holds it in place and it is a little bit wobbly since the grate is also made of three pieces attached together. The charcoal sits very close to the cooking grates so food items cook very quickly and can burn more easily, resulting in things like burgers and hotdogs working out well but not so much for more complicated food items like chicken. Ideally a cover or lid would be a great additional feature to help control airflow and to control how hot the grill gets. Dont be fooled by its size, this grill is built to last decades and serves as a faithful companion is your cooking arsenal. Whether youre at the beach, campsite, backyard or on your tailgate, this grill is perfect for compact cooking and entertaining. Being cast iron this grill retains and radiates heat incredibly well and allows for two grate settings. You can use the legs or if you need a hotter cook just flip the grate over and by lowering it you put your food that much closer to the coals. I used lump charcoal for my first cook and this grill did an excellent job and is easily going to be the perfect side kick to my sous vide cooks that need a sear. The grate is an improvement to the Lodge Sportsman in many ways. First it has no logo which in my opinion allows for more searing space. Second the grates are ribbed which easily help hold foods that are prone to rolling around loke hot dogs in place. The ribbed grates also provide excellent sear marks, which lets be honest, you don ’ t get full on fancy, but a visually appealing meal is always fun. You can use this grill for hot dogs and hamburgers or use it as a hibachi grill and everyone can cook their own meat on it. You can easily use this to roast smores after your cookout providing plenty of cooking versatility while also delivering a fun and entertaining experience.
