This was the perfect travel bag for a 6 day trip. Plenty of room for all my stuff with room to spare. The water bottle pocket and zipper compartment are nice new features. The zipper compartment came in extra handy as I could throw in my wallet and cell phone before going through security and get them back out quickly. I got this duffel this spring, I needed a new dry bag. So far it's rafted on the Bruneau, Selway and Salmon with me. Everything in the bag has stayed dry but I also have not flipped. I love how easy it is to get into and then close. I also appreciate the two handles on the ends of the bag and the side webbing that looks good but gives me another attachment point. The backpack straps on the bag are super comfortable and let me carry my bag with ease over slippery rocks. In a future edition I think it would be nice if there was a small divider or separate compartment where damp things like dirty shoes could go. Right now a trash bag is working.

I recently completed a 3- week vacation trip to 3 different countries( flights between each+ some train travel) using this pack. I needed clothing for weather ranging from cool( in the low 50's F) and rainy to hot and humid, and activities ranging from standard city sight- seeing to more formal dinners to hiking some rugged trails. I wanted to be able to carry- on to avoid lost luggage. I also took with me a lightweight stuff- sack style day pack( from another brand) to use as my `` personal item '' on flights and to use during daytime outings at my destinations, since the Alpa 42L is too big to use as a daypack. I like the Alpa 42L because of the clamshell design and interior organization. The pack is spacious, well organized, comfortable to wear, rugged, and has thoughtful details that other reviewers have already mentioned. I like the fact that the external laptop pocket is padded and somewhat hidden, and can be used for other flat- ish items if you 're not putting a laptop in it. I always carry with me a wide- mouth Nalgene water bottle, and the stretch water bottle pocket fits it well, unlike similar packs from other brands. I recommend using compression bags for clothes inside the Alpa( I used packing cubes, but wished I had used ones with compression). The pack had more than enough room for my clothes for the 3- week trip- in fact I had too many clothes( but also had access to washing machines during this trip). For reference, across the Alpa 42L and my day pack, I took 2 pairs of jeans, 2 pairs of linen pants, a pair of lightweight shorts, a pair of athletic tights, a wool sweater, a backpacking rain coat, a cotton jacket, 5 t- shirts, 4 collared shirts, a linen dress, underwear, socks, and a bathing suit, toiletries, 3 books, a laptop and electronics cords/chargers/batteries, a couple of notebooks, gifts, a pair of sandals( wore my trail shoes on the plane), and I still had more room in the Alpa( although to meet certain flight size and weight restrictions I had to redistribute things between the Alpa and my day pack). My improvement suggestions: 1. Although I love the clean lines and exterior of the Alpa, I would add small side straps for cinching down the bag when it's not full. This would help it better fit some of the European airline size restrictions for carry- ons. Side straps would also be nice for holding trekking poles or a wet raincoat etc. while wearing the pack. 2. Position the sewn- on exterior webbing in the corners in a way that it's easier to add after- market elastic cords for strapping things like a rain coat to the exterior of the bag( or Cotopaxi could offer an add- on elastic strap specifically designed for the Alpa, but that could be removed for flights). I bought some elastic cord for a DIY attempt, but the angles and spacing of the webbing made it hard to create a `` net '' effect on the exterior of the pack and I scrapped that idea.

I took this bag on a 16 day trip, the only thing I added was one extra compression style cube for underwear and socks. Great high quality zippers and compartments I find the handles to cary as a duffle extremely useful and the luggage pass through strap is also useful for passing through other items. I used the luggage pass through strap to hold a travel guitar at some points. I checked the bag several times on international flights and it was durable and protected my gear.

We absolutely love this bag as our personal item( as long as it's not overstuffed, it fits easily under the seat) to bring our toddler's plane snacks, toys, tablet, and other travel essentials along with a smattering of items we want to keep on us instead of checking through. This is a great pack for both car and airline travel. I pack smart with packing compressors packing cubes but I wouldn ’ t say I pack light and I had plenty of space. The waist belt allows me to comfortably carry this pack through the airport. The straps stow easily and it fits in the overhead bin.

Haven ’ t flown with my gear yet but I ’ m ready to go! Not even sure I ’ ll be using this that much in my life but I ’ m happy to have it and since I got it, plan to travel with my clubs soon. The bag is excellent so well made, durable high quality zippers. Pockets are perfect and padding is also a great finish my clubs are protected and my driver stays in the bag! Someone reviews this and saying their driver didn ’ t fit, Ogio sells other alpha covers that could accommodate. I was happy to take my driver out and put it next to the golf bag but it actually fits perfectly staying in the bag. Straps keep it snug and easy to move with the handles and wheels. Straps over the outside and over the golf bag. Front pocket and inner pockets. Haven ’ t really gone into the inside of the bag much but I noticed a few pockets and zippers to potentially add or replace more padding. Have yet to put this item to use, but plan on taking it on our upcoming trip to Iceland next month. I have already packed most of what I will be needing. Between my carryon suitcase and this back pack, I have more than enough packing space! My favorite feature is the day bag that attaches to the front of the main back pack. This will be perfect for day hikes to store water and lunches in without having to carry the full backpack and add the extra unnecessary weight. [ Got my rolling duffel a few weeks ago, and I 've been able to use it for 2 trips so far. I really like how adaptable it is, it feels at home in a classy lounge and out on trail. The wheels are amazing, they roll so smoothly! I 've read issues about the handle in other reviews, however I 've had no problems at all with it. There is a bit of unused space in along its spine, where the fabric covers the retractable handle, but other than that I am very happy!

I have n't taken it on my road trip yet, but I packed everything and we are almost ready to go. The zippers are so high quality. I love the inner pockets that resemble a suit case and the straps evenly distribute the weight and are very comfortable. I like the clips in both the chest area and the belt. I imagine it would be very comfortable in an airport setting because of that. My boyfriend wants one too now that he's seen what all I can fit in this thing and how it feels on his back.
