The rental skates at our local ice skating rink left a lot to be desired. They were uncomfortable and the laces were shredded to tatters and nearly impossible to tie properly without destroying the few remaining threads. So, we decided to buy our 7 year old daughter these skates for her Learn to Skate lessons. These have been working out great! They are very comfortable( nice padding around ankle) and work well. We got them sharpened prior to first use at the rink ’s pro shop, of course. I ’ m not saying it ’s all due to the skates, but my daughter is one of the best skaters in her class! We are very happy with this purchase and will buy again when she outgrows this size. For reference, she wears a size 1 sneaker and we bought the size 2 skates which give her a little wiggle room to grow into( we ’ re using thick socks in the meanwhile).

I liked the leather uppers and stainless steel blades which were well sharpened out of the box. Stainless steel is harder than other steels and does not rust. The fit was great, but order a size smaller than your normal size. They are easy to skate on and well balanced, tho I am a beginner skater, I do love these skates. Good job Lake Placid.

I 'm a beginner skater and invested in some skates since I live near a rink now and can go skate at least three or four times a week. I tried out various skates( including the less expensive Lake Placid Cascade skates) before I settled on the Alpines. These skates were far superior to any of the others. They are sooooo comfortable- even after skating for a couple hours. The memory foam lining of the boot also feels like it's molding to my foot. Great ankle support and the leather boot was worth the extra money( the Cascade skates are plastic/pleather). I highly recommend these if you 're looking for a good, affordable pair of skates. A note about sizing: I wear a 9. 5 and the size 8 fit great.

These are actually the Alpine 900's. They are comfortably wide, plenty of toe room. I normally wear a women's size 9. I ordered a 9 for me and a 7 for my daughter. The 9's were about an inch too long. I decided to try my daughter's on and they fit well with room for comfort. As a young boy we could n't afford hockey skates so I always wore my sisters figure skates. Much later when I was now on my own I took back into ice skating but this time wearing men's hockey skates.
