I climb Camelback Mountain in Phoenix, Arizona every day. It's 5- miles, 2, 400' of granite boulders with no soft places, no dirt, only sharp- edged rocks to tear up your boots. The mountain has torn up many lesser shoes and shredded all competitors. I 've hiked with XA Pro 3D for ten years and recently switched to the Ultra 360( same shoe, better padding). Everyone I 've recommended them to has stuck with them. Nothing comes close! I highly recommend these for tough terrain.( They 'll probably do great at easy terrain too, but I do n't go there.)

I purchase these hikers for a trip to Caprock Canyons in Texas, and they did not disappoint. Hiked a really tough terrain for over 8 miles, and these were comfortable the entire time. I have another popular brand of hikers, that I do like as well, however, these did not make my feet sweat like my others do, and they were not as heavy as my others, so due to that fact, I love these Salomon X Ultta 360 hikers. My Vásque hiking boots died in the middle of last winter. They were thick leather with Thinsulate. I found these at a sports store. The Gortex works almost as well as the Thinsulate in keeping my feet warm with its reflective properties. Roomy toe box, comfortable step through, grippy tread, good lacing, and darn good looking. Also lighter than the Vasques.

I gave them a 4 star because the `` tongue '' at the closure does not easily tuck back under the boot side when tying the strings... and the strings need to be double knotted to stay closed... and that does n't always stay.

I got these after talking to a product specialist at REI. I learned about my arched feet and listened some general pointers that made a whole lot of sense to me. Until then, I usually did my hiking and backpacking with sneakers. Fashion wise, these things look pretty cool, no doubt, however they are a bit flashy for my tastes. I ’ m pretty skinny too so when I wear shorts with these I feel like I ’ m wearing clown shoes. When I hit the trail with these, oh man, it was like night and day in terms of comfort, traction, and foot support( in no particular order). I no longer have to watch my footing to prevent slipping when ascending hills on trails. My feet feel well supported when walking over rocks. As a matter of fact, the sole tech feels like a biolayer that adjusts itself to the bends my feet do when going over uneven terrain. It ’s just bananas! It ’s quite comfortable too and my arches feel supported; not sure how beneficial it is biomechanically, especially as I am currently being sucked into the world of the zero drop/barefoot peeps, but it sure feels comfortable! The REI rep did mention that having good foot support helps with endurance on long distance hikes so that is something I will pay attention to on my next 10+ mile hike. As I learned that my right foot was slightly longer than my left, this could explain why a blister developed on my right foot around the back of the heel ball. I ’ m hoping that after a few more hikes this won ’ t happen anymore. I haven ’ t been able to test out the goretex with water yet( as soon as I do another hike with a running stream, these bad boys are going in), but they seem to breath well. I did a 5 mile ridge hike with them that included multiple cresting points when it was around 80 with no shade and my feet didn ’ t feel too hot after. And since I brought up the barefeet people, I just want to mention the 11mm drop does kind of bothers me. Maybe I ’ m focused on it more, but I feel like there is no space between my heel and the ground when I take a step on level ground; it also feels like my knees are taking the brunt of the impacts when I strike down. However, descending down slopes feels great! The shoe also feels pretty sturdy, however I am eyeing the crease where the shoe bends in the toe box during heel uplift. I intend to care for these shoes after use to see how long I can wear them since I hear a lot about how these types of shoes( trail runners, or a hybrid of one in this case) aren ’ t durable. Anyways, hope to write good things after a year of moderate to heavy use( which for me would be like 100- 250 miles but hopefully more).

I 've had multiple pairs of these shoes and definitely put them through the wringer with my job. They 've been extremely comfortable from day one and have hardly any break- in time. These do n't last super long for me but I use them mainly as work shoes. These will last me anywhere between 6- 8 months on the job through rigorous hosing, bleach, and a whole bunch of other chemicals so they definitely get their share of work. I switched to a different pair the last time I bought from here just to try something different but these will always be my go- to.

I bought the Elixir Activ Mid Gore- Tex for a 6- day 52- mile hike in the Columbia River Gorge, OR. I barely broke them in but they were great. No blisters at all. They have a lot more cushion than the Outpulse which is why I choose this boot even though the Outpulse seemed to fit my feet a little better in shape form. One thing I think is missing is a second top hook for the laces. That would have been really nice for a snugger fit for rock scrambling at a 25 grade. Overall though, very happy with these.

This is my favorite pair of hiking shoes. I have taken these on two 5+ hour mountain hikes with no discomfort. I took them through waterways and rain/hail storms and my feet remained perfectly dry. I felt the traction was top tier and always felt secure and stable and I enjoyed the ankle support. There was absolutely no break- in period. I ordered a half size up and am very satisfied.

I bought these to wear on a trip to Montana, expecting to wear them hiking then switch to my Brooks running shoes for indoor activities. These were so comfortable I wore them for everything! The lugs are a good size for hiking trails or walking in loose gravel, but are n't so large as to make walking on pavement uncomfortable. I love them! Will look into getting the low cut version for summer use.
