Last year she decided that helmets were unnecessary and did not really provide much protection and that their effectiveness was overrated. I never wore a helmet so it was no concern to me. To small- framed people with thicker legs: I 'm 5' 3 '' 135 lbs with muscular legs. I 've read too many reviews of women's legs suffocating from the knee pads in the combo protective gear packs. I bought these separately and I 'm very satisfied with the product. I 'm able to wear these pads with the top strap about halfway velcroed and the bottom strap maybe 3/4 velcroed. They 're a little bulky, but I 'm able to maneuver on skates to the point where I forget I 'm wearing the pads. The only thing about buying the knee pads and wrist guards a la carte is that Dick's does n't sell elbow pads outside of the set, so I 'm still on the hunt for those.

As a nurse I naturally worry about my husband ’s and my own well being. I have never been big on helmets as they usually give me a headache so when we ride we wear ballcaps to protect against the sun. My husband likes to ride alone and of course i worry about him while he is riding by himself. I always make sure he is wearing his hat and a bright shirt and tell him to be careful. Sometimes i add he should be extra cautious since he doesn ’ t have a helmet which is ironic since i dont have one either. Recently when he was headed out for a ride i gave him the normal sendoff talk and he said he had something he wanted to show me and pulled out a yellow lazer codex helmet. While i previously did not own a helmet my wife had a helmet that she would Periodically wear. Mostly she wore it when biking with her parents, who wear helmets. It was white and very plain with few vents was likely the first helmet ever made. I actually think it is older than she is, probably a hand me down a from a much older sibling who likely never wore it. Not only is it heavy, it has a white foam interior and an impossible to adjust buckle land looks pretty dated. When she wears it she does not have much to say good or bad. When we would ride just the two of us she almost never wears it. Occasionally when I would ride alone she would remind me that i was more than welcomed to wear her helmet. i did end up wearing it for some additional protection last fall when there were wet leaves. It was actually nice peace of mind however it was of poor fit and I was terrified that was the way all helmets fit and did not pursue getting one of my own. This past weekend i was going out on a long ride and my wife handed it too me saying “ it will make me feel better ”. So of course i wore it. I forgot it was on and did not duck low enough under a tree branch and hit it hard enough that it broke. when I returned home from a ride i told her i broke her helmet and suggested i would get her a new one. I found the kineticore in white at public lands and bought it. I tried it on and was impressed with how it fit. My wife couldn ’ t believe how much better it was than the old. it is so well vented light and comfortable you she forgets she has it on. My wife is now asking when i will get my own. This is both my first Giro brand helmet and my first MIPS technology helmet. I like how Giro has the side straps set already so that's two less buckles to adjust and loosen on their own. Coming from Bell helmets I had to get used to adjusting the straps by pulling to center them each wear no biggie for better comfort. Speaking of comfort the dial to tighten in the back is much better than Bell helmets. The MIPS technology allows the helmet to move slightly while staying right to your head to reduce injury in a collision. I 've had the hardest time finding a bike bag to put my Galaxy S21 in. Everything I 've tried has either been too small or has bumped against my legs as I pedal. Fortunately, the medium Aero Wedge does the trick. With some careful positioning, it can hold my phone along with a bike multitool, tubeless repair kit, and a little bottle of hand sanitizer, without having to unzip the expansion zipper. I did have to fiddle with the attachment straps a little. The bag sits farther forward than others I 've tried, and I needed to lower it slightly so the zipper does n't get hung up on the bottom of the saddle.
