I know you are `` supposed '' to wait to `` air it out '' but I could n't. I hopped on and practiced. it felt great. I have been practicing yoga for 9 months and had a beginner mat before and decided to upgrade( I deserved it). The only thing that irks me is that when I practice, it seems like the mat feels a bit slippery. It makes me kinda nervous I will slip. I have been on a quest to find the best yoga mat for hot yoga. I wanted one that I could use without needing a towel on top. I read a lot of reviews, articles, and watched YouTube videos to make my decision. I have used other Gaiam mats in the past and they have been very slippery, so when I first read about this mat I ruled it out. I ended up purchasing a Jade yoga mat. It was great and not slippery, but not for hot yoga. Unfortunately, I needed to use a towel to feel safe. After a while, I decided to buy this mat even though I was skeptical. I am SO happy I did. It is not slippery at all. It is everything I have wanted in a yoga mat! I wish I bought this one right from the beginning. I do n't think I will ever buy another yoga mat! There are only a few downsides to this mat. They do n't bother me, but I figured I 'd mention them. The shiny design is slippery, but I 'm not ever in a pose where this has been an issue. Also, the mat does smell when you first get it. Deep breaths in Child's Pose were not great on the first day, but by the second day after airing out it was already considerably better. Lastly, the Gaiam label fell off on the second day. Im not sure why it would be stuck on with just some sticky adhesive, but I really could n't have cared less. Overall, I am extremely pleased with this purchase. I was starting to loose hope in my quest to find a non- slippery mat, but I 'm so glad I found this one! Namasté.

I use this mat so far for my flow and foundational. I 'm a larger guy at 6' 3 '' about 250 and very wide at the shoulders. Normal mats do n't get it done, and I 've tried seemingly every mat on the market geared towards the larger yogi. While some have been ok, some have been good except for caveats, some have been done right dangerous! This is the first mat I can honestly say is just right for me. My very first down dog I tried to push myself off as hard as I could to see if I 'd slip. No break in m, no nothing. I did n't budge. My warriors and lunge are as deep as I need, and I feel safe and secure even sweaty. I should have started my search with Gaiam. I 'd have saved literally hundred of dollars.

Even though it is considered a thick mat I never had any trouble balancing and really appreciated the extra support it offered. It offers a really good grip, no matter how sweaty your hands might get. Really liked the mat until it started to slightly separate. The top layer was separating from the cushion part of the mat. Researched reviews again and decided I would try a premium Manduka mat instead. So disappointed with the Manduka pro mat. It is very slick and if you tend to sweat at all during your session you will find it difficult to get a grip. I even found myself unsure of trying certain poses because I was afraid I would slip. I noticed that a few people had written about the Gaiam seperating issue and their customer service people would respond for them to get in contact with them. I decided to email them and let them know about my mat and I included a picture. They immediately responded and sent me a brand new mat! I have been using a good mat for yoga, though basic, it has helped me 6 months in my practice. This Manduka mat is really worth the price since it has enough cushioning, not so much that makes one lose balance but good for a head stand. Also, it has a great grip for positions when you press hard with hands and feet. It is long enough for me to fit laying down and it is n't that heavy. This is a very good non- slip mat. The mat performs incredibly well out of the box, especially if you are used to the standard issue$ 20-$ 30 mats out there. This one is about 5 steps above those for about 2. 5x the price, meaning: it's a worth it! My hands and feet never slid using this mat, until I wore out the top layer. I 've owned mine for about a year, and only now am I facing the fact that it's time to say adieu. I used it pretty heavily, 3- 4 times per week for Ashtanga and higher- level vinyasa classes. Over time the coating wore off in areas of heavy use, like where I put my hands in down dog, and in those areas now it is very slippery. But hey, I got a year of use out of mine, so I ca n't complain.

Because of COVID- 19 and the closure of my gym, I ’ ve been doing my workouts outdoors. The rubber mat that I ’ ve been using has been good for everything but jump roping. I needed something THICKER. A YouTube jump roper recommended the Dollamur 3x6 mat. I thought the price was a little high until I compared it to other mats that were being marketed for jump roping and the Dollamur was in the same price range. I knew the Dollamur made good quality thick mats because I ’ ve seen them being used by my local college ’s gymnastic team and judo dojo. Now that I got it, I am really happy that I bought it.
