Replacing an older TNF Goretex hard shell that held up for a very long time until the zippers failed. First impressions is that the number of pockets and their positioning is exactly the type of thing you did n't know you needed until you have it. Feels light and offers good maneuverability. This jacket has ended all desire to purchase anything else. Great quality and build. It ’s kept me warm and dry on chilly pow days and the vents keep me cool on the sunnier days. The oversized hood goes over my helmet and keeps me very cozy. Easily the best jacket I ’ ve invested in. It is a little big but that does allow me to layer comfortably while still maintaining mobility. I ’ d prefer this over a tighter fit and baggy is steezier anyway. If the sleeves length is ok, then the coat is too long, more like parka not a jacket. If you go with smaller size then the length is ok but the sleeves are too short and not much room for movement( even though my nephew is slim). We tried M and L and took the bigger one. I bought is jacket to replace my old Gore- Tex Foray that started to delaminate after 7 years of use. Lets see how well this AscentShell Dry hold up over the years. So far this is a great 3- in- 1 jacket but I 'm really disappointed that it lacks the TorsoFlo Venting all the other Foray versions have. TorsoFlo Venting, or at least some basic armpit vents, really makes a difference when you need to vent some heat build up or want to use the shell as a rain jacket year round. I like that it comes as a 3- in- 1. This is easier to put on and take off than the Foray and Shadow combo this jacket is replacing. Being able to combine the shell and insulation layer when it gets cold is much more convenient than dealing with 2 separate jackets. I like that it is longer than the other Foray versions The longer Parka style provides better rain and snow protection than the shorter Jacket style. The over all look and color make this great to wear in any setting like work, camping, shopping, or anywhere else. I really like the Ranger Green color over the Hops Green of my Foray that this is replacing. I hope they make a version 2 with TorsoFlo Venting and a stuff sack for the insulation layer.

This is a beautiful and well designed layer, but I can not handle the chest zip pocket.( other athletic brands have been putting these on everything this year too). Love the side zip pockets for hands or items one needs to carry, the fabric is stretchy and really nice. Great length, it can stretch to cover you bum or sit higher and still look great. well designed as usually Salomon! I have no doubt it would perform fantastically. I still gave it 5 stars, even though I returned it, I must be alone in hating the chest pockets.

What I most like about this jacket is that it fits me well, yet is roomy enough to layer up for those colder days on the mountain. I returned a more expensive jacket from a competitor because it was a snug, athletic fit and didn ’ t leave enough room for layering. Personally, I don ’ t care about the ability to convert the jacket to a shell, and I would have preferred deep glove pockets inside the jacket instead. But I didn ’ t ding it for that because the jacket is as advertised. Overall it ’s the quality you ’ d expect from Marmot. I have used it on one ski trip already and I am happy with it, particularly at the sale price.

Purchased for skiing in the northeast, so needed warmth and flexibility. I believe I found my next favorite jacket. The 3- in- 1 is nice and sized well at XL for a guy who can fit into a L but finds that too tight in the shoulders( after all, you have to keep your arms forward with poles). Great wind protection and comfortable feel, which means room for layering up on cold ski days(< 10 dF). I have not separated the liner yet, so do not have any input on the pieces individually. The Gore- Tex shell is really nice and the line coat is warm in the set. I would recommend it as a warm and relaxed coat for the piste.

I ended up going with my normal size of XS after trying the XS and S. I 'm 5' 1 '' and 109 lbs for reference. The size small fit more oversized but the arm sleeve were slightly too long. If you 're between sizes, I would size up. My main concern was how cropped it might be and both jackets ended up hitting my waist at about the same spot so I went with the smaller size for the better arm and shoulder fit.

I 'm 5' 2 100lbs and usually wear an XS and this jacket fits me well with extra room for layering. I love the Turtle Dove color as it is a creamy/vanilla shade that pairs well with any snow pant color. Amazing features- snow skirt, thumb cut outs, water proof and wind proof, zippers up to my chin, well insulated, and, multiple pockets. This jacket is one of the best quality ski jackets on the market now. I would say it's comparable to Helly Hansen's Alphelia jacket in terms of fit and features but for a lower price point. It even has a similar fit to the Arc'teryx jackets if you cinch the waistline in and tuck it. You can get away with wearing no layers underneath this jacket in 30F weather. I 've already gotten many compliments and will be wearing this to back to back ski trips in Vermont and Colorado! I agree with other reviews that a snow helmet can not fit underneath the hood, but that is NOT a con for me as wearing a hood while skiing usually obstructs my view anyway.
