I 've been trying to find good' intermediate' boots for snowshoeing for over a year. I bought several pairs and returned them all. These are exactly what I was looking for. They are waterproof, warm, and have stiff enough uppers for cinching down snowshoe bindings. They also have great tread and decent edging ability on hard, steep snow when not using snowshoes. These felt incredible out of the box and I ’ d argue barely need a break in period. After several multi- hour hikes over the past few weeks in prep for a Patagonia trip, they ’ re performing well and feel fantastic. The wearing experience is as close you get to running show comfort while being a fully capable backpacking boot. If I had to criticize them; the tongue material can bunch up when putting them on if you don ’ t pull it up/distribute it before lacing. This should be a best practice before lacing any boot, so truly not a notable negative imo. Great boot all around and looking forward to 14 days in Patagonia with them!

After a horrible experience with the migrating foam in the footbed of a previous leather- upper Merrell, this was a gamble... but so far it's been great. Incredible cushioning, great fit. A few unexplainable hard spots on the uppers noticeable only on steep side- hills. Now on to the desert sand.

Got these in low top. These are great! Coming off a pair of Moab 2 lows for hiking I feel these are a definite upgrade in looks and comfort. I think Merrell hit the nail on the head with the styling, I actually am tempted just to wear these as a daily without hiking in them, I do n't want to get them dirty! They look fantastic with jeans. Also note that these leather ones are more comfortable than the Speed 2 Goretex version... I tried on that pair and the cut outs for the ankle were higher and rubbed my ankle. There is no rubbing on these, however they are slightly heavier than the Speed 2 goretex. I imagine because this uses leather.

Out of all my high top Altra shoes this is the most lightweight of them all. I have to send the left shoe off to have a lift built onto the bottom, which usually makes it very heavy. It added weight to it, but it is still really lightweight in comparison. Always very warm and durable, just wish you would make this exact shoe with a taller top for better ankle support. I had a stroke and could use a little more ankle support. All in all a 5 star ranking from me!

For having been rocking a competitor brand that's very cushioned, I 've been experimenting and wanted to give these a try. I 'm not hip on the zero drop or whatever chatter. I 'm very basic and oblivious to the jargon. I let me feet tell me if they like a shoe or not. I 've already taken these puppies on some monster trails and I do n't feel pain or discomfort after being on my feet for so long. I have been searching for the right pair of boots for long day hikes and backpacking for years. Salomon and La Sportiva have gotten narrower and narrower. Constant ankle and knee pain along with blisters. I took a chance and ordered the Timp 6 with hopes the wide toebox would do well. I overpronate and have bad ankles so I added a pair of Superfeet insoles to get a bit more support. Out of the box I did a 13 mile hike with no break in period at all. Zero blisters. Zero hotspots. I 'm a die- hard Lone Peak trail running shoe fan. I 've been wearing them for all of my hiking and backpacking adventures for over 6 years. I tried the LP 7 and for the first time ever, it was n't love at first step. I 'll review those separately! I thought I 'd try the LP Hiker 2 instead to see if it felt better than the LP 7. I 'm happy to say that I truly love it. It's an especially nice option for rockier terrain where you might want a little ankle protection. It also eliminates the need to wear gaiters, which I always wear with the LP trail running shoe. The upper on this LP Hiker 2 is far better than I expected... flexible, no grommets to dig into skin, and laces stay tight. The upper does n't put any pressure on my heel or ankles and it does n't restrict my shin from forward motion. The tongue is very comfortable. I LOVE the brown color. It has a slight dusty rose/mauve/salmon tint to it. These are true to size. I always wear an 8. 5 in Lone Peaks and these are no different. It feels very similar to the LP 4. 5 and LP 5( shown in photo). If anything, it does feel a tiny bit more fitted in the midsole. I can immediately tell that it will be warmer and less breathable than the trail runner, but, I 'd expect that from a boot. So, I will likely reserve these for cooler days and rockier terrain., but I will also wear these a lot as a daily winter boot just because they are cute!

I recommend going a full size up. I 'm usually US size 6. 5 wide. I have the LP Alpines in 6. 5 W and they fit well, but I wear thinner socks with them. I first got the Lone Peak Hiker 2's in 7 W( half a size up), and they were a tad too small, especially because I wear thicker socks for hiking. I got them again in 7. 5 W and they 're perfect. See pics comparing sz 6. 5 Alpines w/ sz 7 Hiker 2's, and sz 7 vs. 7. 5 Hiker 2's. Also, there is no arch support in these. Not an issue for me because I have very high arches and routinely add my own insoles to my shoes. When I removed the original Altra insoles and added my own, the fit was much better, and there was more room in the toebox because my insoles are thinner in the front( I use Superfeet carbon lightweight insoles). I have n't put many miles on these yet but I have done some short walks on mixed terrain, and they are great so far. They are lightweight, the high tops support my ankles without limiting movement, and they grip the ground well. Overall would recommend. Just be sure to size up. Thankfully, Altra makes returns super easy.

Also have had a couple pairs of low top Zionics. I like them but the Apex fits me a bit better. A shade more toe box room. I would n't mind even a tad more. I will likely replace the Zionics with low top Apex shoes at some point. At 69 my feet are more particular than they once were and Keens keep me comfortably on the trail. Primarily woods trails, big hills and small mountain use. Use these as an everyday shoe also.

Have worn these shoes a little over a month. Primarily for everyday use. The shoe is attractive and looks well built. The lugs on the sole are aggressive making it great for wearing on snow and ice. The shoe also has amble cushioning. They can be worn all day with little foot fatigue. The fit is true to size. I wear a medium width. The down sides are for me a little difficult to get the shoe on. The loops that are used to pull the shoe on are too small making it difficult to slide on without breaking down the backs. Also the bungee shoe strings do n't seem to stay tight. I 'm considering going to laces. A good value for the money.

As soon as I received Merrell's email about these several weeks ago, I was intrigued. I really liked their look and style; plus being waterproof was also a benefit. As soon as I saw that they had gone on Merrell's Holiday discount, I grabbed a pair at a great price. I 've been wearing Moabs for years and they have all been exceptional. I did notice that the footbed under the ball of my foot seemed to be a bit thinner than my other Moabs. However, it might simply be that these Moab 3 Luxe have a more aggressive tread. Either way, after a day or so the footbed cradled to my foot, and I 've been delighted. I still do need to get used to the newer thinner slightly flatter laces, and do wish they were a few inches longer.

This shoe is a reinvention of the Moab Smooth from a few years ago that was probably the best boot made by this company. In this new version there have been some upgrades in terms of styling, but as with the original one of the best features is that it's much more water resistant than the traditional boot with the brushed or `` suede '' style material. None of their boots are truly waterproof but this one probably comes the closest so it's my favorite and I 've bought several pairs already.

[ The quality of this shoes are exceptional! Living in Washington state we go for a lot of hikes and the majority of time is raining. Keen keeps my feet dry and warm while giving me comfort to finish the course. It has anti odor in it so points for that. It is conscious about the environment and durable. I ’ m really happy with these hiking shoes. I hike often for bird photography, and that usually means walking on uneven hillsides covered with loose gravel and small rocks. The grip has been excellent — I haven ’ t felt slippery at all, even on those loose, rocky slopes. They ’ re also surprisingly lightweight and very comfortable for long walks. Another thing I really like is how well they keep small rocks and debris from getting inside the shoe, which makes a huge difference when hiking on gravel trails. The upper is easy to wipe clean after a hike, and the QuickLACE system works really well. It ’s fast to tighten, holds the shoe securely, and stays snug throughout the hike without loosening. Overall, these shoes are lightweight, comfortable, secure, and very practical for hiking. I ’ d definitely recommend them, especially for anyone who spends a lot of time on rocky or uneven trails.

I love how light weight and comfortable these boots feel out of the box. My first time wearing these I put 11 miles on these boots the day after I ran a 30k trail race with blistered sore feet and the comfort of these boots felt great and didn ’ t bother my damaged feet. I would highly recommend this boot if you are hiking in a dryer environment and want something light weight that allows you to power hike and even run.

Super comfortable, probably more comfortable than the prior generations of mid x- ultras I have. They would be 5 stars if laces had “ hook clasp ” at top of tongue like x- ultras. I could leave them tied at perfect length and simply slide laces into clasp and go where as with these you have a long skinny lace you have to tie/ untie every time& like 9 ” excess lace you then have to tuck out of the way.

After a horrible experience with the migrating foam in the footbed of a previous leather- upper Merrell, this was a gamble... but so far it's been great. Incredible cushioning, great fit. A few unexplainable hard spots on the uppers noticeable only on steep side- hills. Now on to the desert sand.

Got these in low top. These are great! Coming off a pair of Moab 2 lows for hiking I feel these are a definite upgrade in looks and comfort. I think Merrell hit the nail on the head with the styling, I actually am tempted just to wear these as a daily without hiking in them, I do n't want to get them dirty! They look fantastic with jeans. Also note that these leather ones are more comfortable than the Speed 2 Goretex version... I tried on that pair and the cut outs for the ankle were higher and rubbed my ankle. There is no rubbing on these, however they are slightly heavier than the Speed 2 goretex. I imagine because this uses leather.

Merrills alway fit me well. For some reason the inside lining is usually the first part to wear out and I wish that part were sturdier but they fit so well I just go get another pair. In this case I got a pair in black and they could serve as dress shoes in a pinch. Ed
