Long time fan of the New Balance Hierro line. This is the 2nd pair of the V9's that I own. One pair is my `` going- out '' pair and these are my work/daily shoes. I have purchased V6's all the way up to the V9's. Buy far, these have the best cushioning out of all the other models with a super grippy tread. You can wear these all day and not experience fatigue like other `` Runner '' shoes. Ca n't say enough good things about them.

Many decades of trail running and 2 prosthetic disks in my cervical spine... still doing 1, 500+ miles each year... very particular( likely obsessive) about midsole... also a stickler for stability, traction, and lock- down. This Heirro v9 is the best shoe I 've run in. Personally feel that there is not one midsole( rebound, impact, drop) that will be ideal for every runner due to variances in weight, foot strike, stride/ mechanics, terrain... but for me( 6', 160lbs, frequent 10%+ grade) this shoe is the best riding shoe I 've put miles on so far... outer sole seems more durable( better attached) than 2nd favorite NB More Trail V3 which is another great riding shoe... and less ground feel and rebound but more stable and long mile friendly ride than N# Zag.

I ’ ve only had these shoes for a short time, but so far I ’ m very impressed. I previously wore the Nike Pegasus Trail 4 GORE- TEX and loved them, so I was a little hesitant to try something new. The fit and overall feel are similar enough that the transition has been easy, with no significant break- in period for me. I have high arches, a higher instep, and toes that like room to spread when I walk. I also tend to notice pressure points and fit issues quickly. These shoes provide a nice balance of stability and flexibility without feeling overly rigid or overly cushioned. They feel secure through the midfoot while still allowing natural foot movement, which is important for my walking/running style. For sizing reference, I wore a size 8 in my Pegasus Trail 4 GORE- TEX and chose an 8. 5 in these. I ’ ve experienced no rubbing, hot spots, or heel issues so far, and they ’ ve been comfortable from the first wear. The traction and overall ride feel well suited for walking on a mix of pavement, road shoulders, and uneven terrain. My only wish is that there were more color options available when I ordered. I recently noticed the customization option and would have loved that feature from the start. In fact, I ’ m already considering picking up a second pair as a backup because I like them that much and hope Nike keeps this model around for a long time.

[ I ’ ve been really happy with the W Nike ACG Pegasus Trail. The fit feels true to size and comfortable right out of the box. They have enough cushioning to stay comfortable on longer walks and workouts, while still feeling supportive. I really like the design. They have that sporty look but are still easy to wear with everyday outfits. The materials feel durable and breathable, and I appreciate that they don ’ t feel too heavy. What I like most is how versatile they are. I ’ ve used them for walking, running errands, and being active outdoors, and they ’ ve been comfortable every time. The traction has also been great.

[ Let me start by saying how comfortable these shoes are! Super easy to put on and they stay on while running! I love that they ’ re not super narrow at the toe area like some running shoes, my toes can breathe and allows me to feel more comfortable running. They have great cushion at the bottom that allow a boost/little jump when you ’ re running for support. The bottom has tracks that allow you to run on different surfaces and not slip. The grip really well. I do wish they had more color ways, as the ones they have aren ’ t my favorite but the shoe itself is definitely worth if you ’ re a cross country runner or like to run ion different surfaces. True to size!

Cascadia did very well in a steady all day rain. Great shoe.

[ I ’ ve been running in the Men ’s Cascadia 19 GTX for a few weeks now, and I ’ m genuinely impressed. The Gore- Tex lining keeps my feet completely dry even on muddy trails and during rainy runs, while still allowing breathability. The updated midsole feels more responsive and cushioned compared to earlier versions, offering great comfort on uneven terrain. Traction is solid, and the lugs grip well without feeling bulky. I also appreciate the secure fit — it hugs the foot nicely without being too tight. Overall, it ’s become my go- to trail shoe for wet and unpredictable conditions.
5
Siva
[ The Cascadia 19 GTX is an exceptional hiking shoe that delivers outstanding support and comfort — perfectly suited for Portland ’s summer trails. Portland in July offers warm, dry, and sunny conditions, and only occasional rainfall. These conditions make it an ideal time for hiking in local hiking trails like in areas like Forest Park, the Columbia River Gorge, or Mount Tabor. But even with mostly dry weather, sudden changes can occur in our area, and that ’s where the Cascadia 19 GTX shines. The shoe features an innovative Trail Adapt system, built for durability and stability. Its rugged outsole rubber provides excellent traction, whether you 're trekking on dry gravel or navigating a surprise summer shower. The integrated flexible rock plate adds a protective layer in the sole, enhancing stability on uneven terrain — something I truly value after past slips on wet trails. The GORE- TEX upper, bonded seamlessly with the shoe, makes it both breathable and waterproof — a must- have for Portland ’s unpredictable microclimates. Brooks ’ signature DNA Loft v3 cushioning — a blend of foam, rubber, and air — offers plush comfort and responsive support, especially in the midsole. It ’s noticeably soft and supportive, making long hikes feel effortless. Despite its rugged build, the Cascadia 19 GTX is lightweight and flexible, making it a joy to wear on both urban trails and backcountry adventures. Having said all the good things about the shoe If am going to nitpick the only thing is that I am not a fan of the color scheme of my pair. It was more appealing in the picture than in person. In summary, this shoe is a reliable companion for Portland ’s summer hikes. It handles both dry and damp conditions with ease, offers excellent traction, and keeps your feet comfortable and protected all day long.
5
SVS
[ I absolutely love these shoes. Brooks is always my go to brand for comfort and I ’ ve always wanted an option for when I ’ m out hiking or running in the rain. These shoes fit the bill to a tee. They are true to size and like most Brooks are super comfy. I love that they are waterproof so I can feel comfortable wearing them out in the rain and I love the look and design. I wouldn ’ t wear these casually as the waterproof aspect does prevent some ventilation from getting in, but I ’ d defo keep these in my rotation for rainy days, trail hikes, or camping adventures. Overall a great pair of shoes.

Jamie
[ I ’ ve been really impressed with the Brooks Cascadia 19 GTX. Right out of the box, I loved the style — sleek enough to wear out running errands, yet rugged enough for my training runs. The design strikes that rare balance between function and everyday wearability. From a performance standpoint, these shoes delivered exactly what I needed. I used them on both pavement and dirt trails, and they felt equally supportive across surfaces. The cushioning is excellent — enough to absorb impact on longer runs without feeling bulky — and I noticed the difference in how much better my knees felt afterward. The upper fabric feels high- quality and durable, with just the right amount of structure to keep my feet supported, even on uneven terrain. The GTX version also held up well in wet conditions, keeping my feet dry without overheating. Overall, the Cascadia 19 GTX is a well- designed, versatile shoe that supports my training needs and looks great while doing it. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a trail shoe that performs well and doesn ’ t compromise on comfort or style.

I 've done a handful of runs in these shoes so far including a SUPER hilly FKT attempt and they are so ridiculously lightweight and fast. Its crazy to have 5mm lugs on a shoe that weights so little but thats what you 're getting with these! The lockdown is next level as well as these fit like a sock. Overall very happy with these shoes

arjohnst
First hard effort in these was an 11 mile trail race in the Adirondacks. Weight is superb and grip was more than adequate through a mix of singletrack, mud, roots and rock slick with humidity. I 'd last run this course in a pair of VJ Sparks and these were better in nearly every regard. Race went great. The fit is just a bit long and I did kick the toe a few times- if purchasing again I 'm 50- 50 staying with my size or going down a half. Only other change I 'd make is a millimeter or two more of foam- barely more, but these did feel a little bit harsh at low 5/min downhill miles. That said, they ARE race shoes. Great job Merrell.

After an initial 10 mile trail run, I took this bad boys out to Spartan Poconos outisde of Palmerton, PA. This was about 6. 5 miles with close to 3k ft of evelation gain, and some of the trails were extremely rocky. As long as the shoe laces were snug, they hugged my feet super well, even on the extremely steep downhills. They shed water like a champ, and honestly I do not see a single sign of wear. I was worried I would get a hole from all those rocks, but nothing. I 'll be taking them to an 18 mile trail in Washington state in two weeks and very much looking forward to it!

[ These shoes are a 10 out of 10 for me. They fit true to size and are made of a comfortable and breathable fabric. They are a little tighter around the ankles than a typical shoe, but for running is offers stability and support that I appreciate. For trail running in particular, it is even better because I do n't fear rolling my ankle. The design is very cutesy without sacrificing stability, although I would have preferred darker colors as these will stain very quickly. The soles seem to be pretty thick which suprised me at first but I quickly found that was a benefit. When moving up hills, the shoe itself almost seemed to rock on the soles and help me up the hills easier. There is not much I would change about the Caldera 8. My only( small) issue is how big they seem, but they are for running not for fashion so they get the job done. I would recommend these to any trail runner, from beginner to experts.

GoodVibesOnly
[ Enjoying taking runs in my neighborhood with my kids. We run a few miles a week and the shoes have been very comfortable and lightweight. Once I tried on the shoes they fit like a glove. The design is trendy and I love the bright colors. The fabric is top quality very soft and durable. I love that I did not have to break in the shoes like most shoes. One thing I would change is maybe the sole design.
5
Marina
[ The Caldera 8s are a great athletic shoe overall for walking, hiking, and running errands. The shoes grip extremely well. You can hear the traction from the tread as you walk, which is great for hiking and cold weather in New England. They are also comfortable and feel well cushioned, with the wider heel feeling like it ’s helping propel me forward. The shoes fit true to size. I ’ m a true 9. 5 and the 9. 5 fit comfortably with enough room in the toes without being too big. They might feel a little snug out of the box for those who have wide feet because of the no tongue design. They are very breathable, which I confirmed with the cold air that I could feel through the top fabric. My feet sweat so the breathability is a must. I haven ’ t gotten them wet yet, but I expect that the fabric would dry quickly. I love the overall design of the shoe as well, with the neon colors making them pop. The neon is perfect for trail hiking, especially to stand out among the brown, dry leaves. They are also comfortable enough and flattering enough to wear for a walk into the office.

Loved the previous versions of the Speedgoat, but the 6 felt “ off ” to me, and had durability issues so I switched over to a different brand. Luckily the Speedgoat 7 fixes many of my previous complaints and is a light, cushioned trail shoe that still provides a good ground feel. I have long, square shaped feet and the toe box felt slightly narrow; sizing up made the whole shoe too big, so I stuck with my traditional size and did a heel lock lace tie which helped keep the foot in place!

[ These shoes are very stylish and look aesthetically pleasing. The rose color is soft and beautiful. They are true to size. I like the breathable material; the tiny ventilation holes are great for airflow and allow heat and moisture to vent so your shoes stay cool and dry. The thick, chunky cushion layer foam is well- made for tough terrain; it feels lightweight, durable, and practical. They are so comfortable. It feels incredibly supportive and secure when you take it out on dirt, gravel, or rocky paths. I love the springy, bouncier feel and the traction it has; it makes me feel secure. The Vibram outsole feels like I am walking on a soft, bouncy mattress. Dirt, rocks, and mud are no match for these shoes. These shoes offer comfort, protection, a reinforced toe cap, heavy- duty mudguards, and an extra 4mm of foam thickness to shield your feet completely from rocks and debris. They stay firm, supportive, and highly responsive to fatigue. I feel in control, the only thing that is missing is that there are no built- in reflective stickers. Other than that, this shoe is awesome.

[ The Cascadia 20 surprised me. I tried some Cascadias many years ago in my search for trail running shoes, and they did not work out. They were too narrow and not at all comfortable to me. Brooks has made some great updates though! The Cascadia 20 was comfortable right out of the box. I have worn them for short and long trail runs, and they remained just as comfortable at the end as the beginning. These shoes have ample cushion but not so much that it makes you feel unsteady on the unstable terrain of the trails. My feet were well- protected from sticks and rocks poking them. My biggest complaint about any running shoes is how narrow the toe box is, but I was so happy to find these had great space there. Additionally, the soles provided excellent traction on technical trails, both wet and dry. They performed well on trails made of grass, rocks, roots, creek crossings, wet bridges. The Cascadia 20 will have a permanent place in my trail shoe rotation.
5
LJ
[ I 've really enjoyed the Cascadia 20s. They 're comfortable, supportive, and have quickly become one of my favorite trail shoes. The traction is reliable on dirt, gravel, and rocky trails, and I felt confident hiking in them. They were n't the best on wet sand, but that's pretty typical for most of my trail shoes. They were also a little squeaky during the first few hours of wear, but that went away after breaking them in. The stability is excellent, and I always felt secure on uneven terrain. The cushioning provides a good balance of comfort and protection, keeping my feet comfortable on longer hikes while still shielding them from rocks and rough trails. Overall, the Cascadia 20s are a dependable, comfortable trail shoe that I 'd definitely keep reaching for on future hikes.
5
MamaJB
[ The Cascadia 20 gripped like glue to every surface I encountered. They were very engineered and well made. I never felt my foot slip in any direction. The construction was solid especially on rocky terrain I encountered while hiking in Colorado. Whether it was rocks, gravel, or wet surfaces this shoes could handle it all. My hikes range from 3 miles to 10 and I could definitely withstand this structure for long distances versus other hiking shoe brands in the past. I didn ’ t feel like I needed to break these shoes in to go the distance. My biggest wow factor was crossing creeks with my kids( normally a lot of foot slip) and I barely had to use my pole to stabilize due to remarkable stability.

I don ’ t run trails a lot but I like having light and comfortable shoes for hikes. These are an excellent choice, the foam offers plenty of protection in rocky terrain but its not so high that you feel unstable. [ Excellent first attempt by Brooks at making the Ghost into a Trail running shoe. 30 miles in them and they are my new favorite training sneaker. Uppers are a little more stable and solid than the standard Ghost and the traction both on and off road is excellent. Very comfortable right out of the box( usual Brooks) Faster than expected. Will buy a couple pairs.

[ I recently tried the Catamount 4 Tail Shoe. I run mainly on gravel/dirt roads and paths so a trail shoe is a must! These felt a little tight in the uppers for the 1st couple of runs then I fell in love with them and they have been my go to ever since! I usually purchase a size 10 1/2 to an 11 in women ’s and I do prefer a tighter fit. A men ’s 8 1/2 have worked well for me. I have an average width foot and the toe box fit is great. I ’ m 30+ miles in and these have kept me sure footed and the cushion has kept me from any stone bruises! I look forward to many more miles in these! The colors have just been a fun bonus, as the darker teal hasn ’ t gotten dirty looking.

[ I had not worn Brooks running shoes before so this was my introduction. I 've been a runner for over 40 years and ran many races- 5K, 10K, 10 Miler, 1/2, and Full Marathons. Now I 'm out there to only compete with myself. These shoes felt really good right away! Lots of cushioning( which I like) and support. I do n't choose running shoes based on how they look but these are nice- looking shoes. It took me a run or two to get used to the difference between my other shoes but now they feel so comfortable. My time has improved a bit also. I need a wide- toe box and these were perfect. I have only run in them in cold weather so I 'm not sure about how they function in the heat. I also only ran on paved roads. PROS: Good support, Plenty of room in the toe box, Plenty of cushioning, lighter than expected, Very comfortable CONS: The tongue is flimsy so you have to hold onto it to put the shoe on. That would not be a deal- breaker for me though.

[ After running several miles I can say these are amongst my favorite shoes for trail running. The soles are thick with good cushion with each step. The laces secure tight to my foot with zero sliding around. I have one other pair I currently run in and plan on using these in my rotation going forward. I ’ m also a huge fan of the aesthetic, in fact they ’ re probably my favorite running shoe in terms of appearance and colorway. If I was to purchase another pair, however, I would order a half size up as the toe box is slightly more narrow and my big toe rubs slightly. One major thing to know is there is not a lot of arch support which would make them less ideal if you have a flatter foot. The shoes work well for me and I ’ d happily purchase them again when it ’s time for a new pair.

[ I typically wear a size 10 or 10. 5 depending on the brand. The size 10 Catamount 4, fit snuggly and kept my heel locked in place, while still allowing for plenty of wiggle room in the toes. Took these out of the box and went on a quick 8 mile run the first day( paved road) and another 7 miles the following day( paved& some loose gravel). The shoes feel lighter on my feet than I expected, very responsive, and provide a ton of cushioning for the heel. The fabric is lightweight& breathable, which kept my feet from overheating towards the end of runs. It ’s been very dry and warm lately; so, I wasn ’ t able to test how they hold up in inclement weather. The traction is great on loose gravel and paved roads alike. I ’ m a big fan of the color scheme though I know bright colors aren ’ t for everyone. My only complaint is the tongue feels a bit thin and has a tendency to get bunched up when you are putting on the shoes. This isn ’ t a sticking point in the slightest because if you hold onto the tongue while sliding feet into shoes, it ’s no longer a problem. Overall I ’ m extremely satisfied with these shoes and quickly becoming my new go- to.

[ The Brooks Catamount 4 are some of the most comfortable running shoes I ’ ve worn. The fabric is sturdy yet breathable and while I do wish they were available in more color options the current design is quite sleek. I was shocked when I first put them on by how light they felt on my feet. I ’ ve run in them multiple times now and am pleased to share that my knees and back do not ache after a long run when I wear these shoes. They provide wonderful support and protection, making running more enjoyable and allowing me to train harder.

The fit of this shoe is true to size, which I really appreciate. As a larger guy, I typically wear through inserts quickly, and by the end of the day, my feet often ache. However, I ’ ve been wearing these shoes consistently for the past three weeks, and I can genuinely feel the difference. The combination of the high- quality inserts and cushioned sole provides a noticeable level of comfort that lasts all day. Highly recommend!

I recently got my 1st pair base off my own research prior to ordered. For the North American market the UG4 is a quantum leap forward from the previously released UG2. Relieve Sphere and optiFOAM specifically are new components that take an already established UG line up a full level to being a serious competitor. Visually UG4 looks overconstructed, there is a lot going on, but it is remarkably lighter in hand and underfoot than I anticipated. Weighing in at 10oz UG4 hits all of the desirables: durability, stability, responsive, confidence- inspiring, and balanced. This shoe checks all the boxes and passes the all- seasons checklist for running in the Cascades. Another homerun from Salomon!

The Norvan LD4 has some thoughtful updates that long- distance trail runners will appreciate. Right away, the improved heel fit stands out and it locks in more securely than previous versions and gifts a more confidence and stability on technical terrain. The redesigned lug pattern is meant to offer better grip, and while it ’s not a night- and- day difference on shorter runs, the added traction really comes through when needed. There ’s also a noticeable change in cushioning — it feels a touch more forgiving underfoot. The LD4 stays true to the Norvan DNA- light, reliable, and built for distance.
5
Mountainmind
These have been a great addition to the shoe quiver. Toebox feels roomier, and the cushion is just enough for harder- packed gravel and concrete between softer trails. I swapped out the original beds for superfeet to support a high arch( like all of my other shoes) and they work great. I also have a narrow foot, so I make sure to lace them up as tight as I can. The only thing I 've noticed is that the tongue is a lighter, stretchy material, similar to the gaiter on other styles. This feels a bit thick/long on me, but I think it will be totally fine on a more medium- sized foot. Still plenty comfy/adjustable. This is my 2nd pair of Norvans( loved my LD 3's!), so excited to continue to put these to the test!

Having owned and heavily used the LD 2 and LD 3 shoes, I can easily say the LD 4's are my favourite iteration yet. First of all, they were the easiest to break in yet. In the past it's taken weeks to run without sore feet, but these ones were a breeze with very little stiff/soreness. They `` feel '' lighter and more responsive than the prior versions too, and the grip has definitely levelled up. I 've used these on both road and trail so far( plus some very old cobblestone roads while travelling) and I 've enjoyed the feel on all of those. I do n't think I 'd recommend it for consistent longer runs on pavement( for obvious reasons) but have done a few 8- 10k runs with them and still felt great. Finally it feels like the toe box might be a bit more spacious in this version? I have slight bunions on the outer edges( pinky side) of my feet so the room is a big W for me:)

I 've logged just under 200km in the new Arc'teryx LD4s and have been really impressed with their performance. Based in Squamish, I ’ ve tested them across a variety of terrain, and they ’ ve handled it all exceptionally well. The grip is solid — both on rock slabs and in muddy conditions. Compared to the LD3s, these feel sleeker and more dialed in. My feet feel secure, especially on technical terrain, which has given me a lot of confidence on more demanding routes. My longest run so far in them has been 30km, and I found the cushioning to be nicely balanced, it offers comfort over distance without completely muting ground feel. I ’ d recommend the LD4 as a versatile all- trail shoe that really shines on technical terrain.

Recently disposed of SpeedGoat 5 after nearly two years of exercise and daily wear. SG7 seems to have the same strengths and less weaknesses as its predecessor. Loved the former for traction, comfort and durability. The latter is lighter and slightly more streamlined and nimble. After 10+ walk- jogs, I can tell that these are worth every penny I paid. These are comfortable and durable trail shoes. I love the traction they provide, I recently ran an extremely muddy trail race, they helped me stay upright while going up and down hills. They provide great protection against rocks and roots. The goretex is one of my favorite features, running through creeks and mud covered trails it kept my feet dry. I have about 250 miles on these shoes and they are still quite comfortable, I will be replacing the insoles soon as I have worn through the balls of the feet. They do feel odd on flat surfaces or transitioning to road, feels like running with cleats. Overall I love these for technical trails.

[ I really love this shoes. Even though it is for hiking, I mostly worn in the city during the rainy season but not pouring timing! This is a perfect replacement for any boots that would be too much to wear just light raining timing. It was really comfortable, thanks to the famous outsole material, and the band around ankle helped support the ankle as well. I really love the design and functionality of the shoes, and I am looking forward to wear this shoes at the hiking too now!

[ I am in love with this hiking shoe. I have been looking for something that is great for summer, but will be a heavy hitter in the fall and spring and I think I found it. This shoe is very high quality, there are lots of extra details added to make it more rugged and dependable in the outdoors. I found them to be very lightweight, extremely comfortable, and I could hike in them all day with no issues. There was no break- in period, they were good to go from the first time I laced them up. There is a nice extra bit on the ankle which provides some stability, while being soft and not too rigid. It also keeps out debris. The traction is beefy and strong, I had no issues when heading up or down the mountain. I love the chunky look of the shoe, it is very modern and I am very pleased with the design. My feet locked in and I felt very confident and stable while hiking. They fit rue to size and have nice room in the toe box, did not feel cramped at all. I ca n't wait to use these all summer long, I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a hiking sneaker.

[ These boots are absolutely fire. I first tested them for an actual hike and they are so comfy. The material is functionally protective but also breathable and comfortable. [ These shoes are fantastic! I ’ ve been wearing them on an almost daily basis for my runs but also for outdoor activities around the house like cutting the grass or gardening. I like to run on the roads near my house but also on trails, and these shoes are great for any surface. The traction makes it so you don ’ t have to worry about slipping and they ’ re also extremely comfortable. The all- weather construction makes them great for any weather or surface. I typically wear a size 9 in men ’s and these run true to size. Great all around shoe for any terrain or weather!

[ Love that the Nike ACG is getting so much love and is receiving full attention from Nike. The Zegama trail is just an amazing shoe and should 've been an ACG product from the start, I 'm just glad this new version is. I loved the Zegama I and the Zegama trails are a beautiful rendition. Comfort wise, the shoe is amazing. Starting with the upper, the shoe is breathable and the added ankle cuff just hugs perfectly and feels very secure. With socks, I did not notice any hot spots or blisters happening but I can see that occurring if you 're wearing no show( which I assume most trail runners/ hikers will not) with this shoe. The toe box feels wider but not to the point of needing to size down. I noticed that the extra width just makes the shoe more comfortable over uneven terrain. It allows your foot to really spread and remain planted. The midsole feels squishy but is not unstable. If you 've worn any of the recent running shoes by Nike that utilizes Zoom X technology then you know that pillow/ comfort feeling, its surprising at first to have such a springy/pillowy shoe but you get used to it quick. That experience is no different with this trail runner. What really impressed me with the Zegama is the vibram outsole. It just gives you so much traction, it's almost a nuisance to wear on regular concrete. It is n't raining in my city now but I 'm excited to try these out then. Overall, this is a great shoe. Buy with confidence and use them on the trails! 10/10.

[ I absolutely love these boots! They were comfortable from the first wear and did n't need much of a break- in at all. They have great traction, feel really supportive on the trail, and kept my feet comfortable even after hours of hiking. The colorway is what caught my eye first — it's so stylish and goes with everything while still looking rugged enough for the outdoors. I 've gotten so many compliments on them! They 're the perfect mix of fashion and function, and I 'm so happy with this pair.

[ I love these! Up until now, my “ hiking ” shoes/boots have been Nike Pegasus trail shoes. The lugs on these shoes are much more geared toward rugged terrain, so it ’s a good change for me to make. I also really like the built- in sock/high top. It ’s very comfortable, easy to put on, and works well with high or low cut socks. I have high volume feet( high insteps and arches). The arch supports for these shoes are fine, but the top stitching where the lace eyelets are put uncomfortable pressure on the tops of my feet. I may have to find a different lacing style so that I don ’ t develop blisters. These will need a bit of breaking in before any long runs or hikes. The shoes fit true to size, BUT only if you wear “ normal ” socks. If you plan on a heavy workout or hike where your feet swell, OR if you plan on wearing thicker hiking socks, such as wool socks, it may be worth it to size up. Essentially, the shoes fit true to size as is, for general athletic wear, but to be used as more intense hiking footwear, make sure you have enough wiggle room to account for sock thickness and normal foot swelling. Make sure to break them in before any serious hikes, runs, or walks!

[ I absolutely love the Nike ACG Zegama Hike shoes. The colors almost feel a little retro. The thicker shoelaces make it feel secure and look robust. The traction on the sole is unmatched. The collar is very comfortable and effective but doesn ’ t feel too restricting or uncomfortable. For sizing I am usually anywhere between 10. 5- 11. The 10. 5 in these was perfect and not too small. I would think someone usually between 10- 10. 5 could comfortably fit a 10. The toe box is spacious without being too wide or narrow.
5
Chrissea
[ It ’s a cute shoe! A little on the bulkier side but I like it, the style is very unique. The red metal pieces that attach to the shoe laces almost look like those metallic keyring clips that you can put on a lanyard or car keys, which I thought was a cool concept! The shoes being neutral toned pairs well with the red and purple pops of color. Not too boring but not too busy either. And they ’ re super comfortable! Good ankle support since they ’ re more of a high top. If I was gon na change anything, it would be to remove the wording on the side, or at least make it more subtle. It ’s not that big of a deal but just my personal style preference. Everything else is great.

[ First off I would like to thank Nike for stepping up their hiking shoe game, these Nike ACG Zegama Hike shoes have really impressed me on every level, “ The style ” is really hip yet vibrant with neutral colors that will match any outfit you decide to rock when climbing the rock or walking the trails( No Pun Intended). “ The Fit& Feel ” is a comfortable, sturdy& soft like walking on pillows that is super light on the feet with a slightly spacious fit, so make sure you wear thicker socks to give you that snug solid fit. “ The Design ” is really well put together& thought out with a more wider sole that provides excellent stability& has a really comfortable stretchy fabric that hugs around the Heel& ankles to help keep any small rocks or debris from getting inside your shoe “ wow ”! The water repellent material around the shoe also helps keep your feet dry.& the extra double layer reinforced toe make this shoe durable& rugged. The quality of the materials used to make these Nike Zegama Hiking shoes is honestly top of the line& I wouldn ’ t change a thing.

[ Not only is this a high performing shoe, but it also looks fantastic! The colors are perfect. The material is the high quality expected from Brooks. The first thing I noticed was how incredibly lightweight this shoe was, especially for a trail shoe. The fit was almost perfect. It was a little tight around the mid foot at first but it felt much better as I progressed through the first run. The lug depth handles wet and muddy trails with ease. My favorite part of this shoe was the cushioning. I have always worn softer shoes and the Catamount 3 is the best I ’ ve ever worn. They have a smooth ride with a considerable amount of energy return which leaves my legs feeling great after every run. These shoes will definitely be a staple for me moving forward!
5
MattL
[ The Catamount 3 are hands down the best pair of running shoes I 've ever owned. From the instant I took them out of the box, I could tell how well designed they were. These shoes are incredibly light- I genuinely felt a boost in my running speed compared to other pairs. The sizing is spot- on in both length and width and the sleek design adds a stylish touch. These shoes also have deep treads which makes them perfect for training in all types of conditions. I 've used them for both short 3- mile runs on city streets as well as for general cross- training in the gym. They were perfect for both scenarios and have become my go to training shoes. The only drawback is that they are not water resistant. I had stepped in a shallow puddle and despite my foot not being fully submerged, water still seeped in. That said, they also performed well on the slippery roads due to their deep treads. So just watch your step!

[ The Catamount 3 is my new go to shoes. I started training for trail running last fall. The weather changed a lot and its very cold, icy and there is snow everywhere. Not a great time to train outdoors but these shoes are also perfect for indoor cross- training. I love these shoes for various reasons:- they are light and with just enough cushioning to feel comfortable and stable- responsive- have a good grip on terrain, both uphill and downhill which is great to get some speed- are very comfortable. I did not get any soreness after the first use- esthetics are nice. They are edgy, modern and unique.- fabric and materials used are of very high quality, as expected Downside: I started picking these shoes everytime. I highly recommend. They seem like they will last for a long time. P. S. I get asked often what brand and model they are while training.

[ I was somewhat skeptical of the color at first, but this shoe has definitely set a new standard for me! They feel great on my feet. They support your feet snugly while remaining ultra comfortable! The textured laces keep the shoes snug. I ’ ve been wearing this shoe for every day activities as well. A great shoe at the gym as well as a day spent walking around the mall. [ The Nike ACG Zegama were an exciting pair of sneakers to test. I am longtime fan of the ACG collection, mainly for it's forward and functional design. These trail sneakers embody both of those fully. I wore these on the trail routes near my home and they full adapted to the uneven and sometimes slippery terrain. I 've worn them on dry runs and just after rainfall, and the footprint/sole of this sneaker felt like it grasped the earth well in both circumstances. The elastic ankle detail hugged my foot just enough for added stabilization. I could really feel the vibram sole and full cushioning which I prefer when trail running. I appreciated the non slip grip the laces had on the upper, they felt secure the duration of each run. But my main takeaway was the width of the sole at the ball of the foot. It really felt different compared to other sneakers I run on trail with. This felt like when my foot stuck the ground, it was fully connecting, giving me more confidence and security with each step. The shoe was comfortable and responsive all around.

[ This shoe made it feel like I was walking on air. I recommend this shoe for anyone that spend a lot of time outside. I love the thickness of the sole on the shoe. I spend alot of time outside because plays sport and I find myself complaining about the lack of a good tennis shoe. I spent a couple of hours in this shoe and had no complaints. I love the simple black and white color tone of this shoe. I can wear this shoe with different colors.

[ The fit was true to size and surprisingly comfortable for my wide feet. I usually struggle finding trail shoes that feel supportive without being too tight, but these fit really well right out of the box. I also loved the overall design because it feels versatile enough for different outdoor activities. The bottom soles have a lot of grip, which made them great for trail hiking, uphill runs, and even climbing over rocky terrain. The cloth- like toe cover almost made it feel like I was running barefoot, but with enough protection and support. The fabric around the feet is soft, lightweight, and breathable. Compared to most hiking shoes, the traction on the bottom feels much lighter, which made it easier to pick up speed and do short runs comfortably. One of my favorite features was the ankle portion because it fits almost like a sock and feels secure without rubbing. What I liked most was how easy it felt to move in them. I was able to comfortably pick up my feet and transition into short uphill runs without feeling weighed down like traditional hiking shoes. Honestly, I wouldn ’ t change anything about the shoe. Even though it ’s not labeled as a wide shoe, it still worked well for my feet and provided solid arch support. My only recommendation would be to wear high socks and avoid wearing them barefoot. I made the mistake of doing a 2- mile uphill run without socks and ended up with blisters, so good socks definitely make a difference.

[ The ACG Zegama shoes do exactly what they say. Comfortable and stable for trail running. The wide toe box is excellent for maintaining stability on rough terrain. The mesh upper breathes really well. I haven ’ t tried it out in wet conditions/creeks but it feels like it would dry quickly. The ZoomX foam is my absolute favorite across Nike shoe lines. The ankle cuff prevents pebbles and dirt from causing irritation which is a great detail. The fit is true to size and their stylish/rugged appearance is a plus.

I 'm 78 and have been walking back streets, uneven ground( no curbs- just dirt/gravel/small potholes, etc) since COVID years, and this new Agility Peak gets my best thumbs up ever. They 're balanced, have that roomy toe area, and grasp the ground with a security that feels like a step up from the `` 5 ''. Thanks Merrell crew!

Slow and persistent
I just ordered my 4th pair of these. I love them and have completed several trail events ranging from 1/1 marathon distance to 50k wearing them. I even wore them when I ran the Chicago marathon last October, Honolulu Marathon in December and the Rock and Roll half marathon in Vegas in February- they were great on pavement too. I go through shoes pretty quickly, but these hold up well especially if you ’ re not a wrecking crew with your shoes, which I admit is a good description of me. I highly recommend them.

[ These shoes are amazing! They are the most comfortable and supportive shoes I 've ever had! The cushion takes away all the jarring impact while running. Merrell is truly the best brand! They make very quality, comfortable and attractive shoes. I 'm so happy with these!

I got these for an upcoming vacation but when I took them out of the box, I had to wear them immediately! They are so cute and indescribably comfortable. I ’ m not a trail runner but have grown to love merrells trail sneakers for any situation I need comfy shoes! Recommend for gym goers, vacation sneakers etc! Very breathable and true to size.

I am not a runner of any sort, but these have turned out to be my favorite pair of Merrells that i have ever owned, and i have lots of other styles. The fit is great, arch support is awesome even without my inserts, and it feels like it springs me forward with every step. Is this what happens with running shoes? I 've always steered away from these type of shoes since i do n't run, but i may rethink that. Just ordered a second pair, this time with the gore tex for wet winter walking!

I have found the perfect shoe for me. I need a fairly good amount of arch support, which these have. They are lightweight yet sturdy. I have worn Brooks for years, but lately find the footbed wears out really fast. The footbed in these feels more substantial, yet still has a good amount of cushion. I am also prone to toe pain and have no issues with these shoes. Wore them walking 11 miles in San Francisco and my feet and legs felt great at the end of the day.

The crinkle sound is WONDERFUL. These shoes are amazing. Size 10 M. Perfect fit. No need for my Rx orthotics. They are light, comfortable and great for my walks. This is my favorite shoe. I have osteopenia and arthritis. These shoes have me feeling no pain when I do my daily walks. I personally don ’ t think they run small, and I have had issues with Merrell ’s running small or large depending on the shoe/boot. So excited to see new colors! Just ordered a second pair.

I could n't be happier with my purchase of the Altra Experience Wild 3 trail running shoes. They were comfortable right out of the box with no break- in period, and they 've quickly become my go- to shoes for trail running. I 've used them on a variety of terrain, including rocky, uneven trails, dirt, gravel, and even wet bedrock. The traction has been outstanding, giving me confidence on slippery surfaces and technical sections where footing really matters. The shoes feel stable without sacrificing comfort, and they handled every type of trail I 've thrown at them with ease. If you 're looking for a trail running shoe that's incredibly comfortable, grips well in challenging conditions, and inspires confidence on rugged terrain, I highly recommend the Altra Experience Wild 3. After 300 miles in them I ’ m contemplating if I even need to buy new ones or just wear these. Although they are definitely broke in I ’ m still not having any foot issues and they still have a solid comfy sole on them after all those miles. Highly recommend

The shoe has much improved features. I ’ ve had each iteration and am glad they tossed vibram on it. Kudos to Altra for listening, these shoes are super durable. Only thing that could make this slightly better is a layer of vibram like the lone peak+ fully covering, and longer laces. All that said, they ’ re great, just got a second pair. I love these as a one quiver trail shoe.

So I started by ordering my normal Altra size: 11. This was perfect length wise until I did an abrupt stop in the store. My foot slid all the way forward and jammed my big toe. The width was too small. Then I tried the 11. 5 and neither issue existed. Now that I have the size dialed in, it is all good. I normally wear stability shoes in 11 wide( Paradigm 8 and Guide 19) for the road, and the Speedgoat 7 in 11. 5 wide in trail shoes. These just have a different kind of ride and fit to them compared to these other shoes, and it is very refreshing. In the 11. 5 size, it is the normal wide toe box Altra fit that feels closer to a zero drop with a softer landing. I live in Reno, NV, and for my typical weather, the grip has been excellent. No hot spots or blisters, and the heel locks down tight with runner loops. The laces are just long enough to relieve a little pressure on the top of the foot if I don ’ t heel locks, which is nice. The shoe breathes moderately. Some reviews I ’ ve read said the tongue was wonky. That hasn ’ t been my experience. It is definitely possible to get it to sit wrong, but you really need to work at it to do it. I will admit, however, it is a comfort focused tongue, so if that isn ’ t your thing, then……….. I have two complaints about the shoe so far, and both are fairly small. The laces could use another couple inches for a heel lock, and they need to change the profile of the laces. I can ’ t get these laces to stay tied if I really get after it. I replaced mine with slightly longer oval laces, and that fixed my complaint. My other complaint is about the lug depth and pattern. Getting to 5mil lugs and the pattern of the lone peak 9+ would make this shoe absolutely unstoppable. They are two very different grip experiences despite both being Vibram. Overall, these have been a great buy for me and my use case. I am not breaking land speed records, and I am not doing Ultras, but my 4- 6 mile adventures over plains, single track, rocks, light mud, steep climbs/descents, and minor pavement has been enjoyable. For context, I am 5 ’ 9 ”, 224 lbs, moderate fitness( Hyrox capable), and mid thirties with no major joint problems.

I ’ ve been running long trail miles in these shoes and I absolutely love them. From the very first run, the comfort stood out — the cushioning feels plush underfoot without being overly soft or unstable, which makes these great for long days out on the trail. They don ’ t feel bulky or heavy. The fit feels true to size and secure, and the outsole handles varied terrain with confidence thanks to the Contagrip lugs — I ’ ve been able to run everything from smooth dirt roads to rocky singletrack without any major slip- ups. Overall, these have become my go- to shoe for long trail runs. I ’ d definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a cushioned trail shoe that can go the distance.

The Altra Olympus 275 combined the comfort of the regular Olympus series with the tenacity and connectedness of the Timps. ... The shoes in the picture have about 300 miles on them and although they need a cleaning, they lasted very well with little wear
5
Dave
The Olympus 275 was the first pair of Altras I tried…when I put them on it was as if the clouds parted, angels sang, and shafts of light shone down upon my feet! Not even joking…the level of comfort was pretty amazing. Recently hiked the West Highland Way in 4 days( 96 miles) …I used both the Olympus 275s and the Timpe 5 Gortex for anticipated rain and wetter sections of the trail. Both performed flawlessly but I do prefer the fit of the 275s over the Timpe. Almost all of my co- hikers suffered blisters…but I had all of the toe splay room in my shoe selection and really had no issues. I also really appreciated the Vibram Megagrip soles…they stuck to everything!
5
Jay R.
I switched to the 275 from the Olympus 6 due to the lighter weight and the addition of the fabric that acts like a gator to prevent rocks and debris from coming in shoe. My wife and I just completed the Camino Frances with these shoes( both of us wore the 275). My wife's shoes look like they have hardly been used and although mine are dirty, they are still in incredible shape as well. We decided to order new 275's to be delivered to us in Leon, Spain. I was a bit worried that I might need a break- in period but no break in period for us was needed at all! I do lace my shoes a bit different as I skip the first eye lace to provide a bit more room in the upper as I use Sole inserts. The Vibram sole lasted well and worked perfectly providing the necessary grip and comfort on long days. The shoes in the picture have about 300 miles on them and although they need a cleaning, they lasted very well with little wear shown. The extra fabric Altra added to the heal was also extremely comfortable and wore very well and did it's job well in keeping debris out of the shoe. I give these shoes a 5 out of 5 rating without any hesitation.

I have logged 250 miles on these shoes in rocky and technical New England mountain terrain, and I am very impressed. The fit, cushion, and flexibility is extremely comfortable. The grip is better than I have experienced with any other shoes. Most importantly, the Matryx upper is extremely durable and breathable. My shoes have encountered many sharp rocks and roots, and there is no damage to the upper. Also, the durability of the shoe has been excellent.

Miles, miles, miles. These shoes are big fans of miles. With a comfortable stride and cushion, the run feel is great, encouraging you to keep moving. Significant but not overly aggressive tread makes the shoe perfect for all- rounding on any terrain. Only feeling out classed when you make it onto the most technical trails.

When selecting trail running shoes for backpacking, consider features such as cushioning for comfort over long distances, a durable outsole for traction on varied terrain, and a lightweight design to reduce fatigue. Additionally, look for water-resistant materials to keep your feet dry and breathable fabrics to enhance ventilation during strenuous activities.
Trail running shoes are specifically designed for off-road conditions, offering enhanced grip and stability on uneven surfaces. They typically feature a more rugged outsole for better traction, reinforced toe caps for protection against rocks and roots, and a more secure fit to prevent slipping. In contrast, regular running shoes are optimized for pavement and may not provide the same level of support or durability needed for trail environments.
Trail running shoes can be suitable for many types of backpacking, especially for those who prioritize speed and agility on the trail. However, for heavier loads or more technical terrains, traditional hiking boots may offer better ankle support and protection. It's important to consider the specific conditions of your backpacking trip and your personal comfort preferences when choosing footwear.
Trail running shoes for backpacking are often made from lightweight synthetic materials that provide durability and breathability. Many feature mesh uppers for ventilation and quick-drying properties, while the outsoles are typically made from rubber compounds designed for traction and grip. Some models may also incorporate waterproof membranes to keep feet dry in wet conditions.
For optimal performance, trail running shoes should fit snugly but not too tight, allowing for some movement of the toes without excessive pressure.
