Make sure you have all the equipment you’ll need before coaching the upcoming softball season.
There are many skills you will need to have when you take over coaching a softball team. One of the most important is preparedness – you want to be ready for every practice and game.
To get the most out of your softball season, you’ll need the proper gear. Some players may prefer to use their own personal equipment, but it’s better to prepare as if they don’t.
An absolute must is to bring plenty of softballs. Whether the team is working out in the batting cage or running drills on the field, you want to be sure you have enough softballs to get through the practice you have planned. There are a variety of softball training drills you can incorporate into practices throughout the season to keep your team on track.
You should also bring bats. Some players will choose to bring their own, but having a variety of bats to use can help your players develop in the batter’s box. Water is a must-have. Players should bring their own, but you should always have extra.
Depending on the skill level of your team, training aids could be useful tools to help your team during practice to improve their skills. No matter what technique a player is trying to develop — pitching, fielding or hitting — there is a training aid that can help benefit your team. Some of the most common training aids include hitting nets, batting tees, weighted balls and weighted training bats.
You will also need to be prepared for game day and bring many of the same items that you bring to practice like batting helmets, fielding faceguards, catcher’s gear, extra bats and extra softballs.
