Like the other reviewers I was skeptical about how thin the material was. However, after wearing it snowboarding and Nordic skiing as a mid layer, it is awesome. The only downside I can tell is that the thumb holes are aligned in a way that sort of twists the sleeves. Also the seam line across the chest can be a little annoying to feel. This jacket is exactly what I needed for Colorado's winter. Keeps me very warm without any layering though with layering warmth will obviously be increased. I would totally recommend if you are into snow sports or like being toasty during winter. Being able to pack this jacket up is another plus for me so it's always convenient to either leave in the drawer when stowed or have it hung up on the coat rack. As a South Florida resident for the past 48 years, I do n't find myself needing a heavy winter coat often. But this year, we were traveling to NY in early February, so my layered sweaters and sweatshirts were not going to cut it. I had an old( 15 years,...) winter ski jacket, that must have weighed 20 pounds, not ideal for travel. I asked around and was told Northface is the way to go for a lightweight winter jacket, for extreme temps. I went online, looked at the various styles and colors, and went with the Terra Peak Hoodie. I could not believe how light it was, and could not understand how this could keep me warm. Well, I soon found out what a great purchase I had made. Temperatures were in the 20's with strong winds, and I was toasty as can be. The hood is perfect for keeping the wind out and I quickly realized that I did not need to wear various layers underneath, becasue the jacket kept me warm. Additionally, it is so light and compact for travel, I was able to stick it in my carry- on bag with no problem. We are going to Iceland later in the year, and I am ready!
