Bought the mag heavy because it fell in a sweet spot with the 1 1/2 oz max lure weight. It feels right with that, at least, but all I 've done is handle it so far yet to fish it. However I had fished a fury for years and this is comparable, minus the cork handle which was n't great on the fury anyway. I looked at a lot of sizes of this rod. I like the guides, at least on the casting rod, and the rod is balanced and light. Has good specs for it's class as far as I 'm concerned and I buy a lot of rods in this price range. I was surprised the tip had the type of flex it did, it feels right. I had n't heard much called mag heavy, but I 'm mostly a medium to medium heavy fisherman so I ca n't compare except to salt.

I was hesitant to bring this on a full day charter because of the price point. It's E glass rod so its durable not but sensitive. Caught 3 tuna( see photos) on it! It held up for this first charter. I ca n't say for sure if it will hold up next time but it did exceed my expectation. I had this paired with a Daiwa BG 6500 65lb braid and 40 lb mono topshot with a 40 lb fluoro leader. Flylining with a seeker rig down in Mexico water departing from San Diego, Ca. The reel seat barely fit the BG btw. Guides held up. Rod is still in good shape too! I wish the butt the of the rod was longer. For the price this is a steal for any deep sea water fishing. Way cheaper than all the higher end brands like Daiwas or Shimano, so it might just be worth trying.

I 've got several ugly stiks and this rod is also really nice. First of all, it's a fast action rod which means the top 1/3 bends and the rest offers really strong backbone. It's specially great for offshore/boat fishing for rockfish, ling, hamachi, yellowfin, halibut, and striper. Also I love the one piece stainless steel guide rings. No need to worry about cracked ceramic. One thing would be great is having a bottom( butt) cap like Ugly Stik jigging rod. But it's not an issue at all. Anyways, it feets good and sturdy.
