The reel and rod combo itself is a wonderful smooth sensitive rod. I would not recommend buying a fishing rod through DSG though. I was severely disappointed with how mismanaged the whole shipping process was as I was sent the wrong size reel then had to beg customer support for a refund and all they wanted to give me at first was 10 dollars. I purchased the 30 for my daughter about a month ago to go with her Stratus rod. She wanted pink braid but we could only find 15lb line so we spooled it up and threw a topwater on it and tested it out. To both of our amazement, she casted a good 35 yards on her first cast which is about double of what she was capable of with her old reel using the same rod and line brand. We switched rods keeping the same line and again, 30- 35 yards easy. I know there are a few factors when casting, but the only change made was the reel. This led me to believe that this reel made a huge difference for her. This is probably one of the best purchases for fishing equipment by far. I bought this at the beginning of the trout season just so I didn ’ t have the break the bank. After about a month of using it, I can confidently say that this rod exceeded my expectations. It casts nice and far, and the reel feels solid. The rod itself hasn ’ t given me any issues and is super sensitive. I would just recommend removing the line that comes on it and replacing it with nicer mono or braided. Besides that 10/10!!

I bought this reel( 2500 size) and paired it with a Lew's Custom Pro Speed Stick( got in on sale for$ 90) and am using with 8 lb test fluoro. I use this set up for lightweight and finesse type fishing such as skipping senkos under docks, drop shot fishing or throwing weightless texas rigs around. Will say this reel feels really smooth and can cast a great distance without much weight. Skipping under docks is way easier with this reel also because of how smooth it is. It is definitely an upgrade from the Lew's Mach Crush spinning combo and the Lew's Mach 2 spinning combo I have. My dad is trying to get back into fishing and plan to buy him this as his first reel as well. Definitely recommend.

Casting it was smooth and the only backlashes I experienced was just due to inexperience. After I dialed everything in, I used my thumb to cast and did n't experience any backlash. Eventually, I was able to cast it without my thumb and did n't experience any backlash! It's an incredible reel and would highly recommend. I 've always been a Shimano go to for years, and always will be, but was looking for a 2000 light reel for jigging and Shimano just does not have it in this price range with a larger high gear for more torque. I was using a 2500 Ultegra but it's just too heavy for long days of jigging. Tried to use a Stradic 1000 and it works but feels underpowered and with 6lb it's not ideal. Been using the Tatula 2000 model for inshore jigging with 6lb line and I ca n't fault it jigging for 5- 6 hours non stop being so light. The only gripe is the handle has a tiny bit of play but nothing a shim ca n't resolve. I changed the handle to a black Titanium Gomexus with ceramic bearings and now it's perfect. I am critical of my reels and I have many including the 22 Stradic and Stella as well as other lower model Diawa's. This is an extraordinary reel in how it feels. The shaft feels that it's spinning on air when turning the handle, something my other reels do n't feel like. It's really an amazing feeling. The reel never has failed once in operation and is very light. Line management is excellent but need to add a washer to get the line lay to not taper on the top from how it came originally.
