I was skeptical of the modern, thin, down jackets and vests. I ’ ve loved my old style, bulky down vests, and had full faith in the warmth of down. The Outdoor Research Helium Down Vest has become a daily part of my kit working at a ski area. The cut is definitely very athletic or snug, which does make it amazing for layering over. I ’ m normally somewhere between a large and extra large, the XL fits much closer to a large than a XL. While not the most flattering for fashion wear, but it ’s perfect for how warming layers are meant to be worn. Generally I ’ ll wear this vest over my base layer and under my other mid layer. Thought the day I might remove my other mid layer and use just this vest and my shell. As with all of my Outdoor Research gear I ’ m very impressed and happy with my purchase.

Trying to get back to consistent running and going longer distances. I previously had another brand ’s vest that I only used collapsible water bottles in the front pockets and never used a bladder. Always had comfort issues with it though and overall felt like I could never it to fit comfortably. For this vest though, I have run three 10 mile+ runs and find this one very comfortable. I was easily able to adjust this to fit correctly. I find the bladder easy to use and has been good to use with Tailwind Nutrition as my fuel of choice. I like the available storage as well and enjoy having a space for my phone. There is also so much more storage that I could utilize and have barely scratched the surface of. I did carry sunglasses with me on a run and was nice to have them with me even though I didn ’ t ultimately use them. Definitely happy with this purchase and look forward to more long runs with it.

Excellent light vest for keeping it flashy when you need that extra warmth but do n't want to sacrifice arm mobility. Added to my wardrobe for winter mixed climbing after a few years of feeling like Ralphie from Christmas Story, and sweet mother of god the difference in comfort is a game changer. I stay just as warm, but do n't feel like I have a wad of underwear in my armpits. Great stuff. Sizing runs a bit large- I 'm 6' 3 '' 215lbs and XL is a wee bit baggy on me. Great for layering over thicker base layers, but a bit loose if you 're headed into the office to turn heads. On a side note, I tend to be pretty conservative with color selection as a white hetero dude- all blues and grays. Tried to go out on a limb here, and the warm yellow tones on this jacket make me feel like a little ball of sunshine. Nice pallet, OR. Thanks for giving the bois an alternative to the norm.

I use this vest for morning walks and for everyday around town. I have tried vests from Columbia, LL Bean, and The North Face, and this vest is hands down the best. Wanted a vest I could wear under my rain jacket. I ’ m 5 ’ 9 ”, 160 lbs, 32 ” waist and athletic build. Originally ordered a medium but it was much too baggy. Exchanged for a small and it fits perfectly over a long sleeve shirt. The small is form fitting and hangs just below the belt. When moving around and going from sitting to standing it does ride up above my belt which is fine as I tuck in my shirts and carry a knife or multi tool on my belt. The vest is warm and comfortable wearing around the house and under other jackets on cold days.
