Casting it was smooth and the only backlashes I experienced was just due to inexperience. After I dialed everything in, I used my thumb to cast and did n't experience any backlash. Eventually, I was able to cast it without my thumb and did n't experience any backlash! It's an incredible reel and would highly recommend. Great reels. I have 2 and am shopping for another. Wo n't buy it here because they do not have the higher gear ratio in the left hand retrieve model. Only 4 stars because it comes with combat grips instead of Winn knobs. But, I have swapped the combat grips for Winn round knobs. I even contacted Lew's and was able to get black and gold end caps for the knobs. I have one on a TP1 Black and the other on a Custom Lite. Purchased this reel a few weeks ago and finally got to use it today. pulled in a 8 pound 26 inch channel catfish with ease. The clicker is awesome, i was standing 20- 30 feet away and herd it over the noise from the rapids. I do n't know why anyone would give this reel a bad review other then the fact that they do n't know how to use a bait caster. I used the 15# line that came with it and a 3/4 ounce sinker, it cast great.

The reel is strong, big crank, the level winder is strong enough for 40# plus stripers and its one less thing to worry about when you are hooked up with a big bass. Plenty of drag and they hold a lot of braid( we use 30 pound Spiderwire). Just make sure you wash them well, they are not saltwater sealed as good as others. Great product for the money. No issues with jamming so far. Casts well and the clicker is great. If money is no object than get yourself a catfish series Abu, if money is tight this reel will work well if you are familiar with using baitcasting reels. If you 're going for bigger cats you might consider changing the line.

Bought this reel for a black Friday event in 2018 and have used this reel on an ugly stick catfish rod and I 'm very impressed with it. The only things I had to do is break the reel down and re- oil it and change the line on the reel but I always re- oil my reels before using for the 1st time. I highly recommend this reel for the price. I restrung this reel with 65 lb braid and it's held up great but always back it with good mono line.
