First impressions of this rod are good. I bought the 9' combo in the blue camo. The quality is better than I imagined. The rod is sensitive and has good action to the tip. The reel is bigger than I expected and was prespooled with monofilament line. For anyone wondering the 9' combo is medium heavy power with medium action. It is rated for 12- 25 pound line and can cast 3/4 oz to 2 1/2 oz weights.

I bought this rod and reel combo about two weeks ago, as an upgrade to my PENN Fierce IV Surf Combos for my shark surf fishing setup. Caught 3 big bat rays and a 5 ft long leopard shark on the combo with ease. Reel is insanely powerful, and by far one of the best reels you can get out there in the “ middle to expensive ” price range for PENN spinning reels. I want to preface this by stating I purchased this rod in 2022, and the rod I have has different decals than the one listed, so I am unware if the quality of the rod has changed over this time. I bought this rod for inshore saltwater fishing, and it does an amazing job with jig applications. The rod has a good backbone, allowing for firm hooksets. Yet still has a sensitive enough tip to feel more subtle bites. This rod is great for black sea bass! I accidently put this rod to the test when trying to snag some bait with it, and hooking into a small shark. The rod held up well all throughout the fight and did not break. After that experience, I thought for$ 20 this thing has exceeded all my expectations. I paired my rod with a Penn Wrath 4000.

I received my rod with one guide damaged( bent, with the insert ring ready to pop out) due to poor packaging for shipping. The rod was taped to the inside of a floppy, poorly constructed triangular box that looked like a gorilla had stepped on it. A cardboard rod tube would have been a logical shipping container choice. I managed to repair the damaged guide and noticed that the action of the rod is labeled MHF. I feel the action is a little on the lighter side though. More like a Medium Action. It's a beautiful rod and very lightweight and comfortable in the hand. For the price, you ca n't go wrong.

Its probably more of a Medium light rod to be honest but its my go to for finesse techniques like drop shot or tubes on the river. I will say tho i have used swim jigs with this thing and it was able to get a perfect hook set. Too light for any chatterbait tho. Bought the mag heavy because it fell in a sweet spot with the 1 1/2 oz max lure weight. It feels right with that, at least, but all I 've done is handle it so far yet to fish it. However I had fished a fury for years and this is comparable, minus the cork handle which was n't great on the fury anyway. I looked at a lot of sizes of this rod. I like the guides, at least on the casting rod, and the rod is balanced and light. Has good specs for it's class as far as I 'm concerned and I buy a lot of rods in this price range. I was surprised the tip had the type of flex it did, it feels right. I had n't heard much called mag heavy, but I 'm mostly a medium to medium heavy fisherman so I ca n't compare except to salt.
