I was on the fence of buying trail shoes or hiking boots for my Yellowstone and Grand Tetons trip. I am so glad I chose the Cascadia. We hiked 50 miles of trails. Bunsen peak, Mt Washburn( 95% snow on trail), Signal Mtn, Cascade Canyon, and a few others. The lugs on the shoes had terrific grip, the stiffness/responsiveness of the shoe helped pushing off when going uphill. Even in the snow they stayed dry! No gaiters or anything. These come out the box with a good insole and minimal break in time, I ’ ve had some 14- 18 hour days on them and while my feet are tired and fatigued at the end of the day, they don ’ t hurt. They also provide great ankle support. I ’ ve worn it hiking, inside of shoothouse training, and during hog hunts and it ’s been a very reliable sturdy shoe for me. While it may be labeled “ waterproof ” I wouldn ’ t walk through deep water or soak them for hours on end and expect perfectly dry feet, it ’s unrealistic and not what it ’s built for in my opinion, it will keep them dry in rain or more shallow ankle deep water, or walking through wet fields. However nothing is perfect, if your looking for something to keep your feet from sweating this isn ’ t it, with them being the waterproof version your feet are going to sweat pretty good, I knew this going into it and therefor it didn ’ t bother me. But I would recommend a different version if you want a nice breathable shoe. The other thing I would change is how thick the tongue is, it doesn ’ t really rub or create hot spots or sit weird it ’s just a personal preference thing for me.

The waterproofing worked well( as it should because they are new). My only complaint is that padding on the ankles makes them pretty wide at the ankle and that tends to catch debris and funnel it down into the shoe... so they are not my pick for places where there is a lot of trail debris.... or perhaps I should have used gaiters. But they are perfect for wet, slippery, or dry trail conditions and casual wear. [ I had a pair of Newton Ridge 2 last year that held up very well, except for the tread wearing down to almost nothing, and water would trickle in after they had aged a few months. Moving into the Newton Wander has felt like a big step up. Cosmetically they look much nicer, and have a sleek look. They clean up very nicely too. I work in a lot of slick, and icy terrain so my biggest selling point is traction and durability. I have slipped around here and there wearing these, so that's why I have to dock one star. When hiking, working, climbing traction is absolutely key, and these unfortunately could be better in that regard. That aside they keep my feet dry, warm, and comfortable without making my feet sweat, and even after a long day at work my feet are n't aching at the end of it. They are to me a light version on the quest boots that are much heavier and clunck than these. I 've bought a few different salomon hiking boots over the years and you ca n't go wrong if you are a day hiker with these they are agile and do n't slip dry or wet they get the job done and protect your feet in every situation. Excellent boots for summer to fall hiking that will last.

I ’ ve had these boots a month and so far they are great. Keep my feet dry and after a short break in period they are comfortable. There is a seam in the heel that if you tighten the laces too tight it will rub but I figured out I didn ’ t need the laces that tight. Overall a quality pair of boots.

I ’ ve worn Salomon boots for years. Since they dont have the older model x ultra mid boots. I decided to try these ones out. They look nice and seem to have all the features from the previous model. However, they have an uncomfortable pressure point located on the inside middle part of both boots. Which makes it uncomfortable to wear as soon as you wear them. Hoping breaking them in after wearing them over time will fix this problem.

These are great! More sturdy then a trail shoe but much lighter then the Moab 3s! As someone who owns multiple pairs of Merrells this is a great midrange addition! Currently using them in the mountains of Honduras!
