I ’ ve been wearing Merrill shoes since I was in the Army. I got this particular model in 2010 and it felt like I was Spider- Man humping up and down the Hindu Kush. I also recommend the chameleons! So now that it ’s been ten years I picked up going for long walks and was wearing tennis shoes. I went back to these and love them! The only issue is my left foot toe bed was rubbing but it ’s an uncommon issue and only happened AFTER my eight miles during a cool down mile. I previously did ten miles in these and had no issue! No limping, no true pain beyond having walked ten/eight miles, no blisters. I ’ m happy the quality is still top notch since 2010.

Warm and dry- but not too warm. They breathe better than past waterproof shoes( including from Merrell) I have had. Fine for wearing all day in the sun. This boot the sizing has changed slightly they are smaller in the toe box. I went with a half size larger but I probably could have stayed with my regular size 10 and just broke them in. They are to me a light version on the quest boots that are much heavier and clunck than these. I 've bought a few different salomon hiking boots over the years and you ca n't go wrong if you are a day hiker with these they are agile and do n't slip dry or wet they get the job done and protect your feet in every situation. These come out the box with a good insole and minimal break in time, I ’ ve had some 14- 18 hour days on them and while my feet are tired and fatigued at the end of the day, they don ’ t hurt. They also provide great ankle support. I ’ ve worn it hiking, inside of shoothouse training, and during hog hunts and it ’s been a very reliable sturdy shoe for me. While it may be labeled “ waterproof ” I wouldn ’ t walk through deep water or soak them for hours on end and expect perfectly dry feet, it ’s unrealistic and not what it ’s built for in my opinion, it will keep them dry in rain or more shallow ankle deep water, or walking through wet fields. However nothing is perfect, if your looking for something to keep your feet from sweating this isn ’ t it, with them being the waterproof version your feet are going to sweat pretty good, I knew this going into it and therefor it didn ’ t bother me. But I would recommend a different version if you want a nice breathable shoe. The other thing I would change is how thick the tongue is, it doesn ’ t really rub or create hot spots or sit weird it ’s just a personal preference thing for me.

[ So far I have hiked with these shoes a little over 20mi. I hiked Mount Monadnock two days each day around 10mi. They are very lightweight while being pretty supportive. I definitely felt confident using these shoes on the Spellman, Pompelly,& Marlboro Trails. Spellman being the steepest trail on the mountain, I had no problem climbing off trail on the steep granite slabs. I was able to use the flat toe part of the boot to to support myself while standing on small cracks in the rock like I was wearing a climbing shoe. It was awesome! I felt like a kid at the playground! Terrain was mostly dry, but there were a couple wet spots that the Megagrip sole did perform well on. Temperature was in the low 70 ’ sF. The only negative I have about the boot, is that it does not breathe well. My feet did sweat considerably wearing a lightweight synthetic sock. Both days I took my shoes and socks off at the summit and removed the Ortholite insoles to dry for a half hour in the sun and wind. The inside of the boots didn ’ t fully dry out. The Ortholight insole mostly dried, because they are very thin. Inersoles could be a little thicker to provide more cushioning, but overall my feet felt good at the end of both hikes. These are aggressive trails for breaking in new shoes, but they felt pretty good out of the box, so I went for it. I think these boots will be best for shoulder season hikes and hikes taking you above tree line. Can ’ t wait to take them to Mount Washington NH!

I 've only wore these a few times but so far I really like them. I may have got a half size too big but they are spacious, flat and proivide lots of room for my toes. The traction on the bottom feels really good as well. I had ordered the low top to see if they would replace my trail glove but unfortunately those ones seem to have a much higher arch support than these mids. These ones are much more neutral. So if you are like me and want a more barefoot feel then these may work even if the low ankle wrapts did not feel good for you. I wear a 10 in some of their shoes and I got a 10. 5 in these.

[ When you find a pair that fits you as if it was made for you. You stick with them. Usually, brands tweak things over the years so when you need a new paired, you ’ re screwed! These are a classic. The first pair I bought myself in 2014, side by side with their replacement that just arrived today. Pulled them out of the box and it was like meeting an old friend that hasn ’ t changed a bit. The fit and feel, perfection. Now, I literally hiked the soles off of the old pair. The toes cracked. Laces frayed but original. Should I have replaced them awhile ago- I did with the charcoal version. But kept these in my closet as a remembrance of my first pair of hikers that took me through the PCT AT. They wear well, almost zero break in, and the scars just as character. Thanks Asolo for a great boot and for keeping a classic, an unchanged classic.

I bought these for a hiking trip as a novice, and wanted something I could also use for rainy city commutes. These boots are exactly what I was looking for- I hiked 20 miles of rocky, snowy mountain trails and my feet never hurt, the waterproofing is excellent and my feet were never wet hiking through snow or on rainy days in the city. One caution- these are fairly low, so your ankles might get a little wet when walking for a while in the rain, but it ’s worth the low profile style. I wear a 10 running shoe and a 9. 5 fit perfect. I will be coming back to Merrell for all my hiking needs in the future!

Very spacious without being oversized. This is my first wide toebox shoe and it did feel a bit too large at first. However, after putting on other sneakers, I felt my toes constrict in the sneaker and craved the extra space. The Jasper Suede has become my new favorite, casual shoe. The cushioning is incredibly comfortable as well and paired with the wide toebox, the comfort is unmatched. I 've also received many compliments. The boots are great! Handled spring time in Colorado so raining, ice, sleet and then snow all in one day. I mucked horse stalls and had very warm feet while doing that chore. I was outside for 2 hours and my feet and calves didn ’ t get cold. I was able to walk uphill on ice and not slip. They are comfortable and require little “ break in ”. Great purchase.

I have been using these for snowmaking over the past month and my feet have not gotten cold once! The build quality is great, especially with the Vibram sole, I have had no problems with traction on snow or ice. Overall great boot and will definitely be using them for many seasons to come!

Bought these as soon as they came out for a busy summer. My first adventure was a Grand Canyon Rim- 2- Rim hike in July. 24+ miles in one day. These were fantastic. Perfect in the extreme heat and dried relatively quickly after a few stream crossings. I then wore these on a 24 hour( 42 mile) hike through the mountains of north Georgia. Very hot and humid, and again no issues with discomfort or blisters. Even after wading through several streams. I have over 100 miles in these and my feet were not a factor and I never thought about my shoes.

I 've been wearing Lone Peaks for a long time, and the Timp is even a step up from those other early models. Though I 've had surgery on both feet and ca n't wear a lot of other hikers, these are comfortable in all aspects. Lightweight, not too hot, good toe room, great look, quick to dry. They seem sturdy so far. Two small complaints- wish the tongue was gusseted to keep debris out, and would like a swatch of heel velcro for gaiters. But those are minor issues. I will be buying a second pair to keep on the shelf until next year or whenever these wear out. Highly recommend.

This hiking shoe is so smooth. The weight of the shoe is so light which is exactly what I need with ankle issues. I went half a step up because I wear ankle braces that fit comfortably inside the shoe. I usually wear an 11 in Altra but got 11. 5 to accommodate the ankle supports. The high top hides most of my ankle support which is nice. I highly recommend this shoe for those that are challenged physically by their feet with some mobility issues. For me it means I can enjoy more pain- fee hikes and walks around the city/country.
